Top Spin 3 is the third title in the Top Spin series of video games. The game is being developed by PAM Development and published by 2K Sports for next-gen consoles and is scheduled for release in PAL teriitories on May 23rd, 2008 and in North America on June 23rd. The game will feature real-time weather effects, a selection of professional tennis players, an in-depth character creation tool and unparalleled gameplay mechanics. It will also feature impressive advancements in an audio/visual sense with improved Dolby Digital surround sound and "Evolutionary" visuals. [1]

  • New gameplay controls: Intuitive controls, now incorporating the right thumbstick, allow for precise movements and shot variety providing gamers with an unprecedented tennis experience.
  • Signature style: The world's best players are accurately depicted like never before with actual apparel, equipment and swing animations.
  • Tennis legends: For the first time ever, play with or against legendary figures of the tennis world.
  • 2K Sports online: Play against anyone, anywhere, anytime in up to four game modes including singles, doubles, quick-match, and a comprehensive world tour with live stat tracking.
  • All-new soundtrack: New music is included featuring Jamiroquai, Calvin Harris, Boys Like Girls, The Go! Team, Stone Roses, and Franz Ferdinand.

Gameplay Modes

Top Spin 3 contains a variety of gameplay modes, each offering a unique experience of tennis. These include:

  • Exhibition: Play a single exhibition match, singles or doubles, selecting from the games 20 licensed players or your created characters. 1-4 players locally.
  • Career: Play in a realistic tennis career, starting off in lower, less prestigious tournaments against lesser opponents and work your way to the top of the game, facing world-class opponents in Grand Slam events such as The French Open (Paris) and The Australian Open (Melbourne).
  • Tournament: Set up your own tournament and play through it with up to 4 players locally.
  • Top Spin School: Learn the basics of tennis, the controls and various tactics.
  • Player Creator: Create players using various tools, each allowing for extreme customization. You can free-form sculpt your players body and even add make-up and tatoos.
  • Player Area: Apply clothing and modify your created players with licensed equipment from top manufacturers.
  • Xbox Live/ Online: Here you can participate in online exhibition matches, singles or doubles (maximum of 2 consoles), or participate in online world tours.

Top Spin 3 will include 20 playable professional tennis players: 17 of today's superstars, and 3 past professionals.[2]

Classic players are available exclusively on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Critical Reception

The Official Xbox Magazine awarded Top Spin 3 a 9.0/10 in the June issue.

Topspin3.co.uk and Roster Concerns

A fansite for Top Spin 3 has been created in the UK. Thousands of people have visited this site and expressed outrage over the poor player lineup. Almost 1000 people have signed the petition created in an attempt to persuade 2K Sports to improve the roster of the game, which has been viewed as being small and uninspired. The website has attracted thousands of fans and currently holds open discussions regarding Top Spin 3. While 2k Sports has suggested that new professional players may be available for download in the future, no official announcement has been made. http://www.topspin3.co.uk
