Knotts Halloween Haunt is one of the largest and most popular Halloween events in the U.S. The event has been presented annually at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, California since 1973.

History

The idea for this event was presented at one of the regularly scheduled round table meetings for managers by Patricia Pawson. The actual event was created by Bill Hollingshead, Gary Salisbury, Martha Boyd and Gene Witham, along with other members of the Knott's Berry Farm Entertainment Department as documented in the DVD Season of Screams. During this special ticketed event, the entire park (or major portions of it) re-themes itself into a "haunted house" style attraction in the form of "mazes" and "scare zones" in the evening. Over a thousand specially employed monsters are also scattered - often hidden out of view - throughout the park at this time. Several attractions are decorated for the event including the Timber Mountain Log Ride and Calico Mine Train and there are 10 or more mazes of various themes from aliens to spiders to clowns from outer-space.

  • Feary Tales in 3D [New for 2005]- The stories mommy and daddy never told you! Aesop and Grimm would run for their lives were they to venture into these 3D twisted tales of terror.

Mazes

  • The Grudge 2 [New for 2006] (Fiesta Plaza)- Pass through the threshold of the house that is determined to possess any soul that enters. What horrific crimes have been committed here that would give rise to such a grudge? Visitors to this dwelling of the damned will come face to face with the tortured spirits and will find themselves,much like characters in the movie, fighting for both their sanity and their lives!
  • Lost Vegas in 3D [New for 2006] (Bumper Cars)- Make your way through a dilapidated “kill-cino” type maze enhanced in 3-D!
  • Dark Realm Laser Rage [New for 2006] (Stagecoach Trail)- Arm yourself with a lazer gun (additional fee applies) as you try to survive through a post-apocalyptic nuclear holocaust!
  • Red Moon Massacre (Log Ride)- A "Little Red Riding Hood" experience where the big, bad werewolf rules the night. Visits to Grandma's house are never a walk in the woods.
  • Lore of the Vampire (Balloon Race)- Follow the undead as they lurk through catacombs and terrorize night clubs. Watch your neck or you'll be next!
  • Hatchet High (Wilderness Dance Hall)- "The Faculty" meets "Carrie" at this horrible high school, where detention can be a death sentence and football games are played to death.
  • The Asylum (Ghostrider 1)- In this home for the demented, the inmates pale in comparison to the bizarre behavior of the guards and doctors. Who is running this Asylum?
  • Red Beard's Revenge (Main Gate)- Hidden deep in the Gauntlet scare zone lies the cursed pirate ship, the Scarlet Scabbard. If you dare to board the bloody bilge, you'll set sail on a gory-ghost voyage to the Isle of the Dead and ports beyond.
  • Terrorvision in 3D (Dry Lake Bed Under Jaguar)- Kitchy TV shows have come back from TV land to terrorize your plasma screens. An enhanced 3-D opportunity.

You’re never safe from our infamous ghouls, ghosts, goblins and other hideous beasts lurking in Ghost Town’s hundreds of nooks and crannies. Beware of Goblin, Vampire, Grim Reaper, half-faced Miss Purdy, The Bride, the notorious Sliders and the hundreds of other “gruesomes” whose sole intent is to make your visit with us as entirely unpleasant as possible.
  • Silver Bullet Mining Town (Silver Bullet Throat)- When the Silver Bullet Cowboy came to Calico his heart was pure, but the Halloween season brings out the monster in our resident gunslinger. As night falls our champion undergoes a hideous transformation and roams the “ Silver Bullet Mine Town” with a posse of evil miners and other creatures of the night.
  • CarnEVIL (The Boardwalk)- The living dead roam the Boardwalk to cause misery in this eerie zone featuring entertainment more easily defined as surreal and sinister rather than scary. Watch your back as the grotesque, zombie revelers are always looking for victims to add to their gruesome party.
  • The Gauntlet (Camp Snoopy)- A tranquil kingdom swept by a terrible plague,its inhabitants doomed to eternal suffering. Seeking revenge, the tortured, scarred souls search for the one responsible – unleashing their fury on anyone who dares to run the Gauntlet!

  • Hacks! Side Splitting Improv (Bird Cage Theater)- Comedy improv at its best! A laugh-a-minute show where you never know what will happen next!
  • Dead Idol... LIVE! (Ghoul Time Theater)- Deceased legends of rock and roll come back for some stunning final performances at “Dead Idol . . . LIVE!”. They may be departed, but these rockers can still put on one wicked performance. Come get down before they go back in the ground.
  • Festival of Freaks (The Gauntlet Theater)- Starring Zamora the Torture King and Miss Electra. Eating light bulbs, sticking fingers in light sockets and swallowing needles are just a few of the things we all learned not to do when we were tots, but not these freaks! These living human oddities will amuse you, amaze you, and make your skin crawl.
  • Haunted Hypnochick (The Boardwalk Ballroom)- You’re getting sleepy…Knott’s “Haunted Hypnochick” rocks Haunt with real hypnosis and hysterical scenarios. Just wait and see what she makes her unsuspecting audiences try in this hilarious quick-moving show!

2007

2007 was Knotts 35th annual haunt.

  • The Doll Factory [New for 2007] (Wilderness Dance Hall)- In an old, abandoned toy factory, the Marionette Murderer, a psychotic serial killer turns his beautiful victims into life-size porcelain dolls for his personal collection. Tour his twisted museum of death and disfigurement, and hope to escape his mechanical lair.
  • Pyromaniax [New for 2007] (Log Ride)- A fire bursts out on the mountain due to a tragic accident at the resident Moonshine Factory. It seems the locals have been using toxic waste to make their libation, and now the lethal fumes are turning everyone (including the Fire Fighters) into murderous mutants.
  • Beowulf Labyrinth Into Darkness [New for 2007] (The Lake)- Darkness has a legacy. Every legend has a king. Every man has a demon. Paramount Pictures film, Beowulf, follows the epic poem, set in 5th century Denmark, of the great hero, Beowulf who defends King Hrothgar and his people in three great battles against the monsterous Grendal, Grendal’s vengeful mother, and a fire-breathing dragon.
  • Killer Clown Kollege [New for 2007] (Xcelerator)- Welcome Freshmen, to your initiation into Clown U and it’s fearsome Fraternity.
  • Black Widow's Cavern [New for 2007] (Calico Mine Ride)- Enter the old, abandoned mine, now overrun by deadly spiders. Get caught in the web of the horrific arachnids as you travel on the old miner’s path of doom.

  • Lost Vegas in 3D (Bumper Cars)- This casino is ready for the wrecking ball, or did that already happen, where the only thing more frightening than the cocktail servers is the constant refrain of “Seven Out!”
  • Dark Realm Laser Rage (Stagecoach Trail)- The maze experience truly becomes interactive when the Haunters are armed with laser tag guns, but run the risk of being shot by our monsters. Up-charge for laser tag but can enjoy the maze without it.

Scarezones
