Cardiogeriatrics

Cardiogeriatrics or Geriatric cardilogy is the branch of cardiology and geriatric medicine that deals with the cardiovascular disorders in edlerly.

Cardiac disorders as coronary heart disease (including myocardil infarction), heart failure, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias (as atrial fibrellation) and others are common and are a major cause of mortality in elderly. Vascular disorders as atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease cause significant morbidity and mortality in elderly.

Guidelines of the Cardiogeriatrics were formulated by the Department of the Brazilian Cardiology Society and translated into English.[1]. A book about geriatric cardiology was published in 1981[2].

The American Journal of Geriatric Cardiology[3] is the official journal of the Society of Geriatric Cardiology][4]
