Biography

Sonja Kohn (born 1949) was born to Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe. Grew up in Vienna in a small Jewish community.

In the 1970s, with her husband, started an import-export business. Moved to Milan.

She moved to New York in the mid-1980s. Lived in Monsey, a large, ultraorthodox Jewish community. Increasing orthodox, cut hair with wigs per faith's practices. Headed small brokerage firm. Known in New York City as “Austria’s woman on Wall Street.”

In 1990s, moved to Vienna again. Worked with Gerhard Randa. Used New York image.

Started the Bank of Medicii in 2003. Mainly fund management.

Married to Erwin Kohn.

Worked for Dorotheum, an auction house.

Madoff Connection

Known for getting investors worldwide to invest billion with Madoff fund.

Went missing just after the Madoff affair, either to hide from unhappy clients who she got to invest with Madoff, or from embarrassment at being involved in the affair, or worse [1].
