Why

Why do you keep deleting the yu-gi oh abridged page I am making? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rane246 (talkcontribs) 08:48, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to see you again

Glad to have you back! I hope you don't get driven away again. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask. Cheers, and have a good evening! (or morning, afternoon... I have no idea what time it is for you) J.delanoygabsadds 04:04, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tthanks for that revert! (Can't a guy commune with nature in peace? :P )
Anyways, I saw that sockpuppet report on AIV, and when it was gone, I looked to see who had block him/them, went to Luna's talk page and saw your post. Again, it's nice to have you back! Cheers! J.delanoygabsadds 07:48, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Nuts.

Re your message: I noticed that you had returned. I was about to leave you a note when I got distracted and needed an ice cream break. Try not to let the vandals bug you. They're not worth the aggravation. That's great about fixing the plane. Perfect way to start a weekend with a test flight! -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:42, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

D'oh! Well, just means you get to go out again for another flight. Glad to hear that the repairs look good. You know how they say the weld is stronger than the original metal, I guess the same thing is true with the epoxy. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You spurred me in to action

I just did what I probably should have done weeks ago and sent the whole of my stalker's sockfarm to checkuser for an IP check. Not sure what will come of it as fear that will require an unfeasibly huge range-block but if I don't ask I'll never know. So, thank you for finally making me realise quite how unacceptable the whole situation is. Cheers, Nancy talk 20:33, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected your user and user talk. Also blocked the IP for a week for what it's worth (not a lot I fear). Nancy talk 07:41, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not wanting to tempt fate.....

....but I'm going to, obviously. Since you and J declared your support on my talk page I have not had a visit from my little friends, that's five or six days now and considering they were on there every night for the past month I'd consider that a result. So THANK YOU a million times THANK YOU ....now stand by for an onslaught in the next 24 hours...... Still no movement on my request for an IPCheck but things seem to move at a snails pace over there (and to be honest the checkusers have a heap of far more encyclopaedia-threatening cases to deal with which rightly take precidence over my stalker problem. Assumnig good faith, biting the newbies, and User talk:Goatsejames

Hello: I saw your comment on Goatsejames's user talk page and I wanted to drop you a line. You wrote on his talk page that "It's obvious by your username you have no intention of contributing in a constructive manner and have been reported as such." While it's quite clear that's an unacceptable username, I still think it's worthwhile to assume good faith and not bite the newbies in dealing with a situation like that. I checked the user's contribution history and they haven't made any edits yet, so it's hard to say whether s/he intends to be a vandal or not. It's always possible that it's a genuine new user with extremely bad taste in usernames. If it's even possible there's good faith and a mistake, rather than nefarious intent, it's always best to be nice, say something like "You may not be aware of this, but wikipedia doesn't allow just any username, and a username refering to goatse violates our policy against obscene usernames. You should feel free to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, but I recommend you register a different account to do it under. Your username has been reported as obscene and will probably be blocked." That way, if it's a vandal, they're still locked out of the account, but if it's a kid with a bad sense of humor, but that would make good edits, he'll come back with an acceptable name, rather than walk away thinking that "those wikipedians are just a bunch of dicks." The bottom line is that it costs nothing to both report the username and also assume goof faith, so why not do so? ⇔ ÆS dt @ 00:52, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah Geronimo

OK, so I've read about your comments about the article being a target by fans. Hmm, I guess they were driven by their ill obsession with Sarah (or with other artists) to sprinkle the article with POV and write it in an inappropriate and unnecessary tone. It's like those fanboys who routinely mess up the High School Musical article or Avril Lavigne, thinking that they can add anything and everything to it. I think these Sarah fanboys may should seek help for their obsession. Blake Gripling (talk) 01:03, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:On the money, bro.

I would like to have these fanboys slapped for good... Blake Gripling (talk) 01:49, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I admit, I am a Strawberry Shortcake fanboy, but I edit in a responsible manner and note that any fannish edits to the articles that I edit will be reverted. But these Sarah fanboys need to seek some help regarding their obsession. Blake Gripling (talk) 02:11, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding MascotGuy, yep, seen 'em. I'm an Eloise fan, and it seems as though this guy's been into messing things up in there. It is assumed that he has autism, and his mother limits his online time. There are two things that I think that can keep him from bothering us: have his mum block access to Wikipedia, or something like that. I feel sorry for the guy, but I guess he needs to cool down and stuff. Blake Gripling (talk) 02:49, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catching that one vandal

Good work! But try to do it with as little ceremony as possible. Post on AIV with a terse note, tag his userpage, redirect his talk page to his userpage, and forget about it. WP:DFTT really does work. BTW, you really weren't kidding that he is stupid. Unfortunately, his ISP is too big for a rangeblock :( J.delanoygabsadds 06:31, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Adding here with my best wishes (after you reversion of the comment on my talk page).
Hi PMDrive - my suggestion is in cases such as this (so that we are all following the AIV reporting rules) is that you either leave myself a note (or someone else) that you have another sock and I will monitor it out of the AIV spectrum to block immediately upon the first vandal edit. The fact is (whilst I am not at all naive) an editor who is legitimate might create a name that fits within Lyle's MO but isn't Lyle and s/he would be blocked illegitimately. The problem with your current reports (and I have noted your great work at AIV and believe I have blocked on your request before) is that you are giving us so very little information and technically are asking us to break the rules. That said, (as my administrator history will show) I will jump to the cause every time there is a vandal that needs to be blocked.--VS talk 08:13, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fun

Thanks, hehe. Yes... It can be very frustrating that kids do this kind of thing.. and you know what, I'm going to give you a secret:

I am a reformed vandal. A very, very, very, very long time ago, when this account was created, I went to high-school. My attempt at vandalism was uploading a modified picture: Basically, a, One cannot simply rock into Mordor meme. I uploaded the image, but then I couldn't figure out how to put it on the page, as I was not use to the code. Since I could not understand the markup, I quickly gave up.

A about a year later, I returned, and started constructively editing. I don't like to admit this, because it was ... well, I just don't like to .. I feel the need to prove myself, and that proof exists that I was an attempted vandal at some point is like a strike on my record as a constructive editor. After the Vanboto incident, I improved, at least in terms of civility. I don't think I'll ever be able to write an article, I don't feel up to the task. I'll just stay with reverting vandalism for now.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 06:33, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MG

FYI. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:42, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message: It wasn't a public IP. It was another DSL IP. I don't think anybody is copying MG. I suspect that it is the same person and he just unfortunately has a neurological disorder. There is not much one can do except to WP:RBI and request another CU should new accounts show up. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:14, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(undent) MG reminds me of Bambifan101 (yet again being discussed on AN [1] as you might have noticed) in the way both may have some neurological disorder, both target very specific articles and neither seem to be able to recognise the general damage they cause. That alone isn't unique, these issues have occurred before and most times IPs get locked down and RBI can be fully enforced but both BF101 and MG are different in that you cannot enforce it because they jump around so much and their IP pool(s) is/are so large that it's simply not possible to end it without creating an issue for other people. BF101 is a lot more prevalent because he targets a larger set of articles and also edits on Simple English wiki amongst others but as mentioned in that thread, neither are any more different than anyone else listed on WP:LTA. The thing is though that both happen to be fairly similar enough and rangeblocks have been put up for 3 different /19 ranges which BF101 have used and I can't see how the same thing can't happen in this case because they both have the same MO and both need to be stopped. treelo radda 12:58, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been framed, I tell you. Framed! Just kidding; looks like I was clobbered by mistake. No hard feelings. It's funny, actually.

Note:

  • In some cases, a user may not in fact be blocked, or their block may be expired. Please check your block log. If no blocks are listed, or the latest one has already expired, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
  • Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.

If you accept the request (note that you can NOT unblock your own account), replace the unblock template with {{tlx|unblock|reason}}, and post the following directly underneath the unblock template:
{{subst:Request accepted|1=reason}}
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Fair enough; I was assuming there was something like that. I take it you've applied to have his arse (or this account's arse) blocked? That's alright. I'll get right on it. Ironholds (talk) 03:24, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep looking. I'm going to submit it as a standard report since a sock report would take too long to process and inform him that the game is up. Ironholds (talk) 03:28, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestion, actually; see if you can find an online checkuser, get them to check the accounts and you can cut him off for at least a few more days. Ironholds (talk) 03:30, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Forget about it, everyone looses their cool sometimes. After looking at the LTA report I can understand why. Want me to look for a checkuser? Ironholds (talk) 03:32, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think rollback would work, since yours were the first page edits. Checkusers are selected to give an equal spread to every timezone; I'll look around now. Ironholds (talk) 03:33, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a message on Jayjg's talkpage; I'll poke you when the response comes through. The Bread for Bread editor

Hi. Thanks for pointing out the meaning of the username - its not slang I was familiar with. It's a little borderline but feel free to post it at WP:UAA - I'll leave the outcome to someone else with more knowledge of the term. You'll need to point out the account has deleted contributions as with the deletion of Bread for bread it appears they haven't edited.

Re sockpuppetry, the two accounts would have to be used abusively per WP:SOCK. There was no evidence of this in the article editing. Possibly the two comments on the talk page could be an attempt to show more support for the page than actually existed, but as the article was deleted anyway this had no particular impact.

Lastly, Bread for bread was deleted as advertising and possibly also lacking notability, but there was nothing to suggest its creation wasn't in good faith. The other editor's username suggests a conflict of interest but as with the sockpuppet claim that's probably something to look more closely at if the article is recreated or they edit further. Euryalus (talk) 03:23, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, is there something I'm missing here? While the guy's username was pretty attention-grabbing, "Get hitched" is a fairly common phrase for getting married and it seems like a logical-enough redirect to me. Just wondering if there was more to this, as it seemed an odd use of "patent nonsense". Thanks ~ mazca t|c 01:06, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah the redirect is actually quite sane. The only red flag was his username :/...I just can't trust a guy who says he's going to run around and create redirects while "drunk." Even WP:U states that usernames that imply disruption to Wikipedia are to be blocked. Even his question seemed fine. He just got started on the wrong foot with that username.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:11, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My assumption (which is possibly stretching WP:AGF a little far) is that the username meant that he usually edits as an IP, but created an account so he could create some redirects while drunk, though not necessarily with any malice intended. Agreed that it's an inappropriate username, but I don't think he's meant any harm. All good fun... :) ~ mazca t|c 01:15, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't mind a little unsolicited advice...

but I don't think you are taking the right approach with the Bambifan socks. This person has piles of block-evasion sock accounts and has never been anything but a disruptive editor as far as I can tell. If I had been this person, your note on my talk page would probably have just encouraged me to keep up the "cat and mouse" games, like your current conversation on the latest socks talk page is likely to do. My feeling is that taunting vandals, telling them to "give it up" and so forth, is not a good idea as it just riles them up and keeps them coming back. In the case of a long-term persistent vandal and sockpupeteer like Bambifan, it is probably more constructive to not talk to them at all, and just undo their vandal edits and disruptive talk page comments, get them blocked, and move on. More information on this philosophy is here. Thanks for your time. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:58, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok. I admire someone who can go on a hunch. The problem is that going on a hunch can have repercussions here, especially if you effectively silence a user who may be innocent. Again, you may be right and this may be a sock of a notorious sockmaster, but until there is substantial proof for this the user shouldn't be treated as guilty. Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia safer, though; what you do is appreciated. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 06:23, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MG is not autistic

Given how he's now gone off to bug the guys at WhatTheFont, the various stories from people who aren't him don't seem to tie together well. I doubt it highly that anyone has made contact with anyone who can control him and I also doubt the autism which apparently two teachers and his mother says he has. The autism thing now seems like a front, the more I read the less I reckon there's any condition beyond that of being a sociopath. The kid is an out and out vandal but thanks to a mental condition nobody can confirm nor deny he's free from any hard action being taken against him and therein lies the twisted genius which allows a smart kid to play with us like fools by assuming the roles of parents and teachers to create reason for near-random actions. Of course, I just might be wrong but no autistic kid pretends to be two teachers to get one over on people trying to stop him. treelo radda 18:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cars Wig Wags

Better, but it's lacking... something... that would tie it into the film. It's still reading like WP:OR in that you saw something in the film and are equating it yourself to a northern california wig wag. The ref doesn't mention that there is only one place that has a double wig wag, nor does it refer to CARS. I know what you're trying to do, but other than point out where it's going wrong, I don't know if I can offer good advice. It would be like mentioning the WALL-E trash buildings were done in the design of 123 Main St in Anytown based on a photo essay of buildings designed by John Doe that, while he may have designed 123 Main St, doesn't have a photo of that specific building there. Bad example, perhaps, but I hope it made sense. SpikeJones (talk) 05:00, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your enthusiasm, I do. You may still have an issue with "with a signal arrangement similar to the one in the movie" as there is no attached reference that states that the filmmakers were inspired by it. Similar, according to whom? You? If so, then that's WP:OR. Need to have that independent 3rd-party reference somewhere. It's a tough call, as I trust what you're saying is correct, but WP policy is to not include casual observations. SpikeJones (talk) 16:53, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, you just have to be careful about adding sentences that things "look like", "are reminiscent of", or "similar to" that don't have references that support this claim from the filmmakers (or whomever). Where YOU might think a vehicle is reminiscent of "Rat Fink", others may say that it's reminiscent of "Speed Buggy". Either case, we're looking at WP:OR opinion if it's not supported by a factual reference. An example would be Wall-E, where tons of fanboys were claiming that the character design was "reminiscent of Short Circuit" to the point where even when Stanton publically said it wasn't in response to those claims, they're still insisting it's true. This would be a clear case of opinion vs stated/citable fact. SpikeJones (talk) 18:24, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indef block

Hey, try not to indef block a minute after I give a final warning, cool? :-) Tan | 39 15:56, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Indef on Teletubbyfan66

Hi PMDrive1061. I am currently being tutored for adminship, and I have a couple of questions for you regarding this indef, which I hope you won't mind answering. If you do, fair enough, I don't mind :)

1: The account was created at 16:33UTC, 4 minutes later you had it indef blocked. Could you please tell me how you gathered evidence to make the judgment to block so fast?

2: I patrol the User Creation Log a fair bit, and I do see accounts of this type turn up, <something>fan<number>. What makes these ones so noticable as being socks of Bambifan101, when other users sometimes create legit accounts as genuine fans of something?

3: Could you please tell me, or give me some indication as to what to look for if it is a sock of Bambifan101, so I can pass on concerns from the User creation log if I spot names like this.

4: To confirm a sockpuppet, surely you would need a checkuser to confirm this. Are you a checkuser or did you make this judgement based on other evidence?

Sorry to take up so much space, and thanks for reading. If you don't want to answer, or you think I need to mind my own beeswax, you are welcome to trout me on my talk page! Otherwise, cheers! Regards, Thor Malmjursson (talk) 16:56, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 00:18, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Philippine TV vandal

I've gone to AIV to ask for 122.54.242.47 to be blocked with no avail. Can you help block this guy or protect some of the articles? HkCaGu (talk) 06:21, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Other admins don't comprehend and I don't have time to write up a case. I just know this guy just turn Hong Kong TV shows into Filipino ones and vice versa, plus other unsourced edits about the Philippines (which I'm not familiar with). Too often his/her IP gets blocked for 1-3 days and he/she returns right after. If each time his/her IP gets a couple weeks, he/she is going to run out of IPs and it's going to be a real discouragement for further vandalism. ~~

You deleted my page

Talkpage edits

Hey, what was with the edit to my talkpage? The message was a (valid) comment on an article I'd prodded; just because said article has been deleted does not mean the message needs to be removed. Ironholds (talk) 06:54, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well it wasn't really trolling, the user probably created the article in good faith and was understandably annoyed at having his work tagged for deletion. Asking nicely with good intentions and an attempt at reasoning (although without the involvement of WP policy) makes him the antitroll, really. Ironholds (talk) 07:00, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also rather worried about the block. An indef block for creating a WP:MADEUP article and asking why it was deleted? Is there some further history here I'm not getting? Ironholds (talk) 07:01, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know it is 'feinged indignation'? It seems like you're assuming bad faith here. A single insult isn't reason for an indef block. The indignation might be 'feigned', and the 'I'm a fag' comment swings it that way, but alternately it could be someone understandably pissed at having their article deleted and trying to resolve it logically. Personally I feel you should have let it be to gauge their attitude with a wider sample of contributions available to you, but you are the man with the hammer, so I'll let it be. Ironholds (talk) 07:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :). I'm unused to things I say on WP actually making an impact :P. Ironholds (talk) 07:14, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you will; I trust all users to act responsibly with any errors they make until they prove me wrong. Everyone starts with a default level of respect and trust, I don't require people to 'earn' it. The exception, of course, is the user who replied to me pointing out his misused tagging by saying that it was alright 'because people who come to correct the tag normally fix what is wrong with the page'. Hooboy. Ironholds (talk) 07:23, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. And you're right, the site does need more users like me; one more. Then I can retire :P. Ironholds (talk) 07:30, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

George A. Brooks is baaaack

You deleted George A. Brooks for blatent copyright violation, and an article of the same title is back. Not sure if this is still a wp:copyvio, but thought you'd like to take a look. I Googled a key unique phrase from the article, suspecting the same -- it reads like someone's Curriculum Vitae -- but did not find any matches. -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 19:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're post "Plausible titles with nonsense content have been done to death. If you continue to disrupt the project in this manner, you will be blocked" was a bit over the top. If you wish to warn a user, please use one of the warning templates, not posting something that might be considered bitting the newbies. George A. Brooks submission/ rejection

Hello:

My article was rejected because of copyright issues. Dr. Brooks was awarded the Honor Award from the American College of Sports Medicine. I referred to the website showing the award, which is apparently against your policies. I removed references to website during an edit, but the paper was still rejected for violating copyright. There are no copyright violations in this paper. I would appreciate an explanation.

--Discusdoc (talk) 03:10, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't enter the signature on my other user talk.

My submission on George A. Brooks was rejected for violating copyright regulations (I referenced a website showing an award he received). I removed the reference, but the article was rejected for the same reason. As far as I know, there are no copyright violations in this article. I would appreciate a response.

Ptahshepses article

Hi, I did not include a bibliography for the Ptahshepses article. I'm not sure why it was tagged as blatant copyright infringement - here is the bibliography. I believe it had references as well, which are indeed similar to a site on the internet. Unfortunately Miroslav is one of few writers on Ptahshepses and his mastaba complex, and there are few books and papers on it. Here are the references:

Baines, John and Jaromir Malek, Cultural Atlas of Ancient Egypt (New York: Facts on File, 2000), 153

Bard, Kathryn, An Inroduction to the Archaeology of Ancient Egypt (New York: Wiley, 2007), 145

Rice, Michael, Who's Who in Ancient Egypt (New York: Routledge, 1999), 159

Verner, Miroslav, Abusir: the Realm of Osiris (Cairo: American University in Cairo Press, 2003), 153

Verner, Miroslav, The Mastaba of Ptahshepses (Prague: Charles University, 1977), 136

Verner, Miroslav, Forgotton Pharaohs, Lost Pyramids: Abusir (Praha: Charles University, 1994), 117

I hope it is possible to undelete articles, as I didn't save a copy of the text before I pressed submit.
