North Carolina Highway 400
Appearance
NC 400 is the shortest primary North Carolina State Highway. It is 0.8 miles (1.3 km) long[1] and is entirely within the town of Manteo, North Carolina on Roanoke Island. The route traverses from its western terminus at U.S. Highway 64 (not bypass) to the Elizabeth II vessel (State Historic Site) docked on Ice Plant Island, located in Shallowbag Bay. All the NC 400 signs have brown recreational backgrounds. The route is split among two one-way streets: one going east and the other going west.
The number 400 was assigned to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Roanoke Colony in 1585.
