Steve Orlins became president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations in 2005. He was previously managing director of Carlyle Asia, a private equity fund, and senior adviser to AEA Investors Inc., a New-York-based leveraged buyout firm, where he was responsible for AEA’s Asian. Orlins was with Lehman Brothers, the investment banking firm, from 1983 and 1991, and was a managing director from 1985 to 1991. He is chairman of the board of the Taiwan Broadband Communications. He was a member of the legal team that prepared for the reopening of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1979.
