Martin Krpan (or else Martin Krpan from Vrha) is a fictional character, folk hero of Slovenia. According to the myth, he sold illegaly salt and was the strongest man in the House of Habsburg. When the king invited him to fight against the unbeatable Turks, Krpan won them and the King as an indication of gratitude gave him permission to transfer salt legally.[1][2]

In 1858, the author Fran Levstik (1831-1887) wrote the Krpan's history and published it into "Slovenski glasnik". This text is very popular in Slovenia.

Krpan is very often shown carrying his donkey. This scene is used to show how strong he was told to have.
