This is a list of disasters in Australia sorted by death toll. It generally excludes incidents attributed to the impact of European colonisation on the indigenous population.

Heatwave South-eastern Australia 374 2009-01-25January 25 to February 9, 2009 2009 Southeastern Australia heat wave. A nine day heatwave with Adelaide recording a record six consecutive days over Template:C to F, a record high of Template:C to F and a record overnight minimum of Template:C to F on January 28.[8][9] Sparked the Black Saturday bushfires (see below). Health authorities attribute 374 deaths to the Heatwave[10]

Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia 125+ 1629-06June-July 1629 Sinking of the Dutch ship Batavia, after which mutineers murdered 125 other passengers.
