Palace of Serbia

The Palace of Serbia (Serbian: Палата Србије / Palata Srbije) is the building in Belgrade, Serbia, the former seat of the Federal Executive Council (Government) of SFR Yugoslavia and the Government of Serbia and Montenegro[1]. It was previously called Palace of the Federation (Serbo-Croatian: Palata Federacije) and, informally, SIV 1 (from "Savezno izvršno veće" - Federal Executive Council).

The building started construction in 1947 in the suburbs of New Belgrade (Novi Beograd). Following the dissolution of Serbia and Montenegro, the building was awaiting its purpose as a State building, and it currently houses six ministries of the Serbian Government[2], various Government agencies[1] and is used as office space for all former Yugoslav presidents[3]. There are plans to move all the Government of Serbia offices to the Palace[2][4].

The building is built in the socialist realism style. Its H-shaped base covers the area of approximately 65,000 m²[2], thus making it the largest building in Serbia. It has 744 offices, about 30 m² each, 13 conference rooms, six salons, three large halls and two garages[2].
