Milson Island

Milson Island is located in New South Wales, Australia. It was first settled over 100 years ago and has been used as a mental hospital, a gaol and now is a sports and recreation centre.

It is in the middle of the Hawkesbury river, so the only means of transport is a ferry. There are many activities there, including a high ropes course, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and abseiling. The accommodation is 2-3 stars with many lodges. The camp usually suits two small schools or a big school at the same time. It is a popular place for camps for many schools across Sydney, and families also go there for a nice, relaxed and fun retreat.

Milson Island was used as a mental asylum back before it was a gaol and before a sport and recreation centre. All that is left of the old mental asylum is the nurses quarters or hospital. If a person escaped or got annoyed and started killing or hurting people, an alarm would sound over the island and all the workers would go into bunkers under the hospital or sleeping quarters.

The nurses quarters are now rotted away but the bunkers and hospital beds and everything else that was there when the centre was running are still present.

The Sport and Recreation Centre still use the old sleeping quarters but they use them as the dining room and kitchen although it has been refurbished. You can do activities such as abseiling, canoeing, archery, bushwalking and many more activities. The rooms at Milson Island range from school kids rooms which sleep up to 5 people or lodges for one to four people.
