Matthew Flinders Anglican College (commonly abbreviated as 'MFAC') is an independent, co-educational day school located on Queensland's Sunshine Coast in the suburb of Buderim (approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Brisbane). It has grown from an enrolment of 160 students in its foundation year, 1990, to over 1200 today. It includes a Primary School (Preparatory to Year 6) and a Secondary School (Years 7 to 12).

In 2007, the adjacent Flinders Early Learning Centre (FELC) was officially opened. The school is associated with the Anglican Church of Australia. MFAC offers an extensive co-curricular program and many facilities including numerous computer labs, sports center and extensive music and drama department.

Academic

The subjects studied in Primary School are English, Health & Physical Education (HPE), Information Technology, Japanese (Year 6 only), Mathematics, Music, Religious and Values Education (RAVE), Science and Technology, and Studies of Society and Environment.

In Year 8 the Students are organized into core classes of Science, RAVE, Geography/History (semester each), HPE, and ICT, and are placed into ability classes in Maths and English. They chose four semester length electives, one of which must be a language other than English; Agriculture, French, Japanese, Music, Design Technology, Home Economics, Drama or Art.

In Year 9. the students are organized into core classes of Science, RAVE, HPE, Thinking Skills and are placed into ability classes in Maths and English. They are also placed into Access (a rotaional personal development program, covering subjects such as Careers Education, Making Sensible Decisions, It's All About Me and Yoga and History (one semester only) choose five electives out of Agricultural Science, Art, Design and Technology, Drama, French 1, French 2, Home Economics, Industrial Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Japanese 1, Japanese 2, Music 1 and Music 2 (if a subject has two variations, both must be chosen, and the course will last a full year).

Music

The Music Department (ground floor H Block) has two orchestral rehearsal rooms, a computer lab, eight solo to quartet practise rooms, a locker room, a lendable instrumental storage room and a department office. There are five class music teachers and 24 private instrumental teachers. In Year 3, the students learn how to play the recorder, and in Year 4, they are given a choice of either Violin, Viola or Cello. Every second year a major musical is put on at the Caloundra Civic Cultural Centre. Every other year a minor performance is put on at the Flinders Stage. The Year 6 (formerly Year 7) musical is performed every year at the Flinders Stage. The school has ten musical groups, three sting orchestra, three corals and four wind ensembles. In 2007 the school was blessed to secure the trumpeting services of the great Drew Romeo, who trumpeted his heart out and did the school very proud.

Uniform

The entire uniform except shoes can be bought from the uniform shop.

Prep to year 2 wear the sport uniform (see below)

Boys in years 3 and 4 wear a non-tuck in white and navy striped shirt with navy shorts, long grey socks with a navy and grey band, black shoes and hat in summer.

Boys in years 5 to 12 wear a tuck in white and navy striped shirt, navy and jade striped tie, navy shorts, long grey socks with a navy and grey band, black shoes and hat.

In winter, secondary students wear long grey trousers with short grey socks and a blazer. Primary students wear a jacket and either navy shorts with long grey socks with a navy and grey band or long grey trousers with short grey socks.
The girls uniform consists of a stripped dress, a tie, short white socks, black shoes and a hat. The winter uniform is a tartan skirt, white blouse, tie and blazer (jacket in primary) with short white sock or long opaque hose and black shoes.
Wrist watches and medical alert bracelets are permit ed and girls are allowed matching gold/silver sleepers/studs. Make-up is forbidden. Hair must be cut (boys) or tied back (girls) if it touches the collar and must be natural colour
The sport uniform is a broad-brimmed or bucket hat, navy sport shorts of skirt, polo top, sport socks and non-marking white sport shoes. In inter-house competitions the old T-shirts or the new polo shirts are to be worn. The shirts are of the house colour and the Polo shirts have the house name and the school logo on them.

The Students are divided into 4 (primary) or 8 (secondary) houses, each named after a famous Australian:

Building Currently the school has undergone a large amount of constructed work with the addition of the Year Seven addition to "J Block" and the extension and renovation of the Main Administration and the Secondary Administration Buildings Respectively. Renovations are also taking place in the Sport Centre to double the size.
