Stefán Karl Stefánsson (born July 10, 1975 in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland) is an Icelandic film and stage actor who is best known for playing the character Robbie Rotten on the television show LazyTown.

Stefán’s rubber-faced turn as the cunning arch-villain, Robbie Rotten, on the international hit children’s show, LazyTown, has ignited an avalanche of interest from devoted fans worldwide. And in his current stage role, as the infamous Grinch Who Stole Christmas, he is delighting audiences ranging in size from 2 to 92.

Stefán Karl Stefánsson was born in 1975 on the North Sea island of Iceland. It was there he first took to the stage, earning a spot in the renowned Icelandic Academy of Arts. Subsequently, he earned a rare invitation to join the prestigious National Theater of Iceland. At the National Theater, Stefan created many legendary roles, earning rave reviews for his lead role in Cyrano De Bergerac, as song-and-dance-man Cosmo Brown in Singin’In The Rain, and as the engaging Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream.

At the National Theater, Stefán created what has become his signature role, that of the scheming bad guy, Robbie Rotten, in the live version of LazyTown. Thanks in part to his delicious deviousness, the stage show sold out for more than two years. And Stefán was invited to continue in the role when it became the worldwide phenomenon on television. LazyTown is currently seen in more than 100 countries, and has garnered numerous awards, including the British BAFTA for Best Children’s Program.

Stefán Karl is the founder and director of the nonprofit organization, Rainbow Children. It was created to bring public awareness and strategic solutions to the endemic problem of school bullying. In a few short years, Rainbow Children has grown from an idea in Stefán’s mind and is expanding in several countries. Stefán, having been bullied himself as a schoolboy, is devoting his energies and passion to helping stop this problem through education and proactive intervention. Stefán currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Steinunn Olína, a well-known actress, TV show host and writer, their three daughters and a son.

Stefan played the Grinch in an adaptation by Timothy Mason of "How the Grinch stole Christmas" By Dr. Seuss in Boston and Baltimore in 2008.

In 2009 Stefan is starring as the Grinch in the Pantages Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles opposite John Larroquette
