Bewertungen

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani received from mixed reviews to postive reviews. Subhash K. Jha (film critic and author of The Essential Guide to Bollywood) states: "If you've ever wondered what on earth is on-screen chemistry here's your one-stop all-purpose encyclopedia on celluloid magic. Fasten your 'see'-it belts, as veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi sheds all his Lajja, and pulls out all stops to do a wacky goofy edgeless weightless comedy of characters who walk in and walk out of frames leaving behind fumes of old-fashioned funnies. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is an airtight trapeze down that familiar romantic lane." [3]Nikhat Kazmi of the Times of India gave it four stars and states: "The newly formented Ranbir-Katrina chemistry sets the screen on fire in this mad hatter's tea party. Adding to this is Pritam's peppy music score with Neeraj Shridhar, Atif Aslam, Hard Kaur, Sunidhi Chauhan and Mika raising a toast to high-spirited song and dance and Raj Kumar Santoshi penning some of the funniest dialogues in recent times and you have a great escape awaiting you at your favourite audi this weekend. Go, have a ball." [4] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film four out of five stars arguing that it "entertains majorly" and that "the romantic moments are endearing. Most importantly, the on-screen chemistry is electrifying. Ranbir and Katrina look great together!"[5]. Omar Qureshi of Zoom gave the movie 3.5 out of five stars saying that, the main point to be noted in the film is that, the film is totally dedicated to love and all the things that are related to love and so, it will leave an ever lasting impression on youth.[citation needed] Minty Tejpal of Mumbai Mirror gave the film 3 out of five stars, saying that Ranbir Kapoor steals the show in the movie.[citation needed]

Other critics disagreed. Mayank Shekhar of the Hindustan Times gave the film one star and suggests that the film has no "comic bone at all. There is certainly no romance either." [6] Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave it two stars and calls it a "silly comedy that goes for slapstick gags and juvenile jokes that are hard to appreciate." [7] Tanqeed.com review said that "The movie tries very hard to be another Andaz Apna Apna" and that "The movie has a 90's hangover" and "the movie is neither Ajab nor Ghazab" [8]

Box Office

‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ had a dream opening weekend at the Indian box office. The enormous amount of hype and curiosity plus the great reviews has done wonders, and the first weekend net business stands at a phenomenal 25 crores plus. Starting off with a 50s lakh Thruday collection in paid previews, the Friday collection was very impressive with 6.75 crores net. Saturday was again huge with a colossal 7.75 crores net business. But what made the trade sit up and take notice was the humungous 10 crores nett business on Sunday. It is only the fourth film in history to collect 10 crores net in one single theatrical day after ‘Ghajini’, ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘Singh is Kingg’; a tremendous feat for the Ranbir-Katrina starrer. The first weekend figures are also the best ever for 2009 surpassing ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (23.75 crores) and the opening week collections are going to be very huge with many multiplexes seeing 80% occupancy for Monday shows as well. Post ‘Wake Up Sid’, Ranbir’s fan base is increasing and Katrina Kaif is always a major crowd-puller, so the first week is expected to be anything in the range of 37-40 crores. ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’is a sure-shot HIT at the box office, and the collections further would determine how far can it go? Will it be Ranbir’s first box office blockbuster?
