Matthew Scott Porter (born July 14, 1979) is an American singer and actor known on his role as Jason Street in the NBC television drama Friday Night Lights. His character was injured during a football game in the pilot episode and became a quadriplegic. The character was inspired by David Edwards, a Texas high school football player who suffered a spinal cord injury in a game in 2003.

Life and career

Porter was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but later moved to Winter Park, FL. Prior to joining the cast of Friday Night Lights, Porter played Matthew in the original cast of the Off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz. He can be heard on the show's cast recording. In 2006, he temporarily took over the role of Casey Hughes in the soap opera As the World Turns, a role originally portrayed by Zach Roerig. He also plays the role of Colin Thompson, the more visible part of the duo that fronts the fictional band PoP!, in the movie Music and Lyrics (Warner Brothers, 2007). Scott also played the part of 'Rex' in the film Speed Racer (2008) which was directed and written by the Wachowski brothers. He played Bobby in the remake of Prom Night and Ben Wheatly in Bandslam, released in August 2009. In the latter film, he co-starred alongside Aly Michalka, Gaelan Connell, Vanessa Hudgens, and Lisa Kudrow among others.[1]With the same year he was paired also paired with The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star Alexis Bledel in their romantic-comedy filmed The Good Guy which premiered on Trebicca Film Festival[2]

Porter is also a big fan of comic books and has auditioned for several comic book hero roles.[3] He is also purportedly a big fan of Heroclix.[4] Porter performed and sung the song Someone To Fall back On in the battle of the band finale in the film Bandslam and his song Pretend included to Bandslam (soundtrack). He was part of his high school's choral department and was a founding member of the groups 4:2:Five and Mosaic. Eventually performed off-broadway with another A Cappella band named "Toxic Audio".

In 2010 he was choosen to star into feature fim Dear John adapted from the book on the same name.
