TAI HURKUS is being designed by TAI to meet the need for basic trainer aircraft requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces, SF-260Ds are already added to Turkish Air Force inventory as an initial replacement for Cessna T-41s;

TAI HURKUS Development Program became effective with the agreement signed between Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (Savunma Sanayii Mustesarligi aka SSM) and TAI in March 2006. The program is supposed to design, development, testing, verification, manufacturing and civil certification of an original trainer aircraft for the Turkish Armed Forces which will also be able to be marketed worldwide, and will be testament to Turkish industry’s capabilities in developing an indigenous platform. TAI HURKUS will be certified in accordance with European Aviation Safety Agency Certification Specification(EASA CS) Part 23.

TAI HURKUS is going to have night and day mission capability, tandem seating and a single turboprop engine. With this aircraft, general purpose, instrument flight, navigation and formation training phases will be realized. In order to realize these training stages; the aircraft will have the standard aircraft systems, cabin pressurization, escape system and oxygen system.

The first prototype already took-off late-2009 and the first delivery, upon completion of the certification process, is due in 2011. It's thought that TAI HURKUS will compete KT-1, Texan II and Super Tucano...
