1970 Trans-American Sedan Championship
Appearance
The 1970 Trans Am season was the fifth season of the Trans Am Series. All races used split classes. Parnelli Jones was declared champion. The year also marked the resurgence of Alfa Romeo as dominant in the Under 2000cc class, ending the reign of Porsche. The year also marked the first win of American Motors, with Mark Donohue driving a Javelin. Also winning for the first time was BMW at Bryar and Bridgehampton. As the Mercury Cougar had been redesigned on the Ford Thunderbird platform, and had thus become a full-size sedan, the vehicle was no longer used in Trans Am. The Cougar was instead transferred to the NASCAR Grand National Series.
