Sir William Cecil Dampier (born William Cecil Dampier Whetham) (1867—1952)[1] was a British scientist, agriculturist, and science historian who developed a method of extracting lactose (milk sugar) from whey. He was knighted in 1931 for his services to agriculture. From 1931 to 1935 he served as the first secretary of the Agricultural Research Council.[2]
