Saint Veronica Catholic School is a private parochial school located in South San Francisco, California. (Saint Veronica, 2006) The school enrollment is 340 students spanning the grade levels K through 8. The school is located at 434 Alida Way, South San Francisco.[1]

Campus facility

Saint Veronica School's physical plant is characterized by a two story yellow-brick building set back off the roadway in a campus-like setting that provides both security for students. A classroom addition project took place in 1996. (Brunnier, 1996) The landscaping surrounding the building was professionally upgraded in the summer of 2005. Ornamental walkways provide a safe means for students to access the school grounds. A 9-11 Remembrance Garden was created to allow for private reflection. There is a library, computer laboratory, a science lab and a college scale gymnasium.

Aircraft sound

St. Veronica School lies in the airport noise impact zone of San Francisco International Airport. St. Veronica School was chosen by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as one of the first schools in the nation to participate in the aircraft sound retrofit program, in order to reduce interior sound levels at the school from aircraft overflights. The FAA in concert with San Francisco International Airport and the city of South San Francisco retained Earth Metrics Inc. to conduct a detailed computer simulation analysis of alternative strategies for soundproofing certain areas of the school. The study recommended specific sound insulation techniques, and post-project sound monitoring indicated a significant reduction in classroom sound levels.(Hogan, 1988)
