Personal life

McDermott was born in Toronto, Ontario. He married fellow Canadian and TV presenter/chef Mary Jo Eustace in July 1993. Their son Jack Montgomery was born on October 10, 1998. In July 2005 they adopted a newborn daughter, Lola.

Later in July 2005, McDermott began filming the Lifetime TV movie Mind Over Murder with Tori Spelling. The two began an affair the night they first met,[1] despite both being married. In September Spelling separated from her husband Charlie Shanian. While on a family vacation in Palm Springs, California, McDermott told Eustace "I'm leaving you, not my kids", and filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years. On December 24, 2005 McDermott and Spelling became engaged. In February 2006 McDermott/Eustace's divorce was final; and in April 2006 Spelling/Shanian's divorce was final. McDermott has joint custody of his son only, opting to not move forward with the adoption of his daughter.Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page).

Rothbart at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California.

On May 8, 2010, McDermott and Spelling renewed their vows[4] in Beverly Hills and during the ceremony he presented her with a custom designed Darkened Diamond Eternity Band by Neil Lane.

On July 1, 2010, McDermott was involved in a dirt bike accident, his second motorcycle accident of the year. Suffering a punctured and collapsed lung, he was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of a Los Angeles hospital. Doctors expected McDermott to make a full recovery.[5] McDermott was released from the hospital on July 6, 2010. [6]

McDermott became an American citizen at a ceremony in Los Angeles on August 21, 2010.[7]

On April 11, McDermott and Spelling announced via Spelling's Twitter account they were pregnant with their third child. [8]
