Tied-arch bridge

A tied arch bridge is a specific type of arch bridge where the horizontal reactions of the arch are negated by each other by means of a structural tie. This elimination of the horizontal reactions allows the arch to be constructed with more cost effective foundations and can easily be situated on top of elevated piers.
