Hi, I've removed your blp prod on James Shea and replaced it with a CSD template as article was deleted in previous deletion discussion. —Half Price 12:22, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ACC Account Request

I have requested an account on the ACC account creation interface. This is the confirmation edit on my talk page. --Slon02 (talk) 04:50, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for applying to access the account creation tool. I have approved your request. You may now access the tool here. Before you do so, please read the tool's guide to familiarize yourself with the process. You may also want to join #wikipedia-en-accounts on irc and the mailing list. Keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse may result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Prodego talk 05:43, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

Hi

Just to let you know, I had to undo this edit of yours. When you reverted, you inserted some vandalism :) --5 albert square (talk) 01:31, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that on Huggle, but when I went to investigate that article, I couldn't find the vandalism! Good job and thank you. --Slon02 (talk) 01:32, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ted Nugent page

You recently reverted my edit to the Teg Nugent page, stating that i didn't provide the necessary sources, but the source was already linked right there at the end of the sentence. 75.65.32.16 (talk) 02:37, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. I didn't think that your comments were using that source, but now I see that they were. It is a very unusual fact, but I suppose that it is backed by a source. My apologies. --Slon02 (talk) 02:39, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are you a real person?

Do u get paid to sit and read new wikipedia articles as they are typed? I believe my article is of great relevance and importance to scotland and therefore i request that it remains online...

Ashleibaby (talk) 03:08, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Although I am a real person (at least I think I am), unfortunately, I am not paid to sit and read new Wikipedia articles (although getting paid would be nice). I do this voluntarily, and I assure you once again that I am real. Also, it is not my decision as to whether or not articles remain online; that power is in the hands of Wikipedia administrators. Finally, for an article to exist on Wikipedia, it must satisfy notability guidelines, in this case WP:BIO. --Slon02 (talk) 03:40, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pics!

I've read that you're a real person. In this, I want to ask you a question, why many articles in this encyclopedia are not supported by pictures? Are they secret?! --41.235.101.218 (talk) 00:45, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many articles are not supported by pictures mostly because nobody added any. WP:IUP descriptions procedure for the use of images on Wikipedia. Not all articles may need pictures, and for many that do need them it can be difficult to find one that suits the proper purpose and is registered under a proper license. For an image to be used on Wikipedia, it must either be released under a free license or, if it is not, must meet the guidelines of fair use listed at WP:FAIRUSE. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. --Slon02 (talk) 02:26, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Regarding IP

I see you templating 74.178.192.228 , these - one and two are almost certainly the same person. Slightsmile (talk) 02:35, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm keeping an eye on his contributions to check for suspicious behavior. I am still going to be assuming that this person is acting in good faith (he did respond positively to my advice), however, I am having some doubts. If he does show some clear signs of ignoring my advice I will perceive it as clear vandalism. --Slon02 (talk) 02:39, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What you think is right. To me he's just a known vandal on all three IPs but who knows maybe with some guidance ... Slightsmile (talk) 02:47, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.

Orphaned non-free image File:AIM logo2.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:AIM logo2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Barnstars

Hi Slon, Good luck with your RfA! I'll just mention that having barnstars on a talk page almost caused the failure of one RfA last week :) --Kudpung (talk) 16:29, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed them from my talk page, and did a bit of new-year cleaning of my talk page while I was at it. Thanks for the tip. --Slon02 (talk) 16:50, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RFA question

Is your answer to Q6 really what you meant? If it wasn't I would really suggest striking it out really soon and rewriting it so that we can know what you really think (and rethink our votes!). If it was, then I would suggest withdrawing and reviewing WP:CSD, particularly criteria A7. I'm really sorry about opposing, as I had hoped to be able to support after your recent editor review that I had reviewed. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:59, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, it was terrible wording on my part. I've just submitted an explanation of what I meant as a comment to another oppose for that reason. I wasn't referring to the Wikipedia guidelines on notability, but I was referring to the word notability itself, or if the article has any significance, importance, or is "worthy of note". --Slon02 (talk) 17:03, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CSD log

I've never seen a CSD log like that before, and I think it's a great idea (for anybody who performs CSDs). Would you mind explaining to me how to set one up? It looks like TW does it automatically but I can't find anything anywhere that explains how to do it. Regards, Swarm X 23:30, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, I have to say that I got the idea entirely from User:Gfoley4, and had no role in creating it. I copied the following code into my monobook.js page, and it did the rest (including set up the userpages) automatically. Some times it doesn't log the speedy deletion, in which cases I add them manually. It also logs PRODs.

importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklefluff.js'); importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklewarn.js'); importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklearv.js'); importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkleimage.js'); importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklediff.js'); importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkleprotect.js'); importScript('User:AzaToth/twinklexfd.js'); //TW CSD script, customized to log all CSD noms. importScript('User:Tim Song/twinklespeedy.js'); //TW PROD script, customized to log PRODs and endorsements. importScript('User:Tim Song/twinkleprod.js');

It can also be found here, starting on the 6th line. --Slon02 (talk) 00:05, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Any work on this? There're still a few outstanding issues (date consistency, etc.) and I don't know if you're still working on any content expansions. If not, I'll give it a full look/copyedit. Cheers, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:33, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've been steadily working on expanding some areas, but I don't think there's a lot left that I can add. As for the date consistency, for each source I added as much information as I could find, which did lead to some inconsistencies. How should those be dealt with? --Slon02 (talk) 03:40, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I meant don't have something like "David Amstell (December 10, 2009). "Russian Energy efficiency: Medvedev's new favourite topic?". PE Power & Energy. http://www.ngpowereu.com/news/russian-energy-efficiency/. Retrieved 2011-01-30" where you have "December 10, 2009"-format in one spot and "2011-01-30"-format in another. Either pick MM, DD, YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD. (Actually, I think Russia would use "10 December 2009" instead, so go with that.) /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:45, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. In that case, done. --Slon02 (talk) 04:32, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion Army Values

Slon -- it looks like you proposed Army Values for speedy deletion. Reason given was copyright violation. As the article is gone, it is impossible to look at it and consider (or discuss) the violation. Moreover, I wonder because "Army Values" themselves are not copyrighted. (See, e.g., http://www.goarmy.com/soldier-life/being-a-soldier/living-the-army-values.html) Would you give me more information please? Thank you. --S. Rich (talk) 17:04, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA

I am sorry to say that I have closed your RFA as no consensus. It was a close call, but I do not think sufficient support was shown in light of the concerns raised about your CSD tagging - an area you intend to be involved in as an administrator. I wouldn't be doing you any favours if I gave you the mop on the basis of that discussion. I hope you are not too disheartened and that you will apply again once you have addressed the opposers' concerns. WJBscribe (talk) 20:20, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • My condolences. As WJB notes, it was close, and if you can jump through the required hoops (just work on that tagging for the next several months) I'd say try again this summer, perhaps as early as July. Thanks again for your service to Wikipedia! Jusdafax 21:53, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yep, that really was close - I really do think you'll get it next time if you can address those few points. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 22:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • Disappointing, but on the bright side your RfA did about as well as one could without passing: extremely close down to the very end, and with a virtual guarantee that you'll pass next time if you can fix the simple mistakes most opposed over. Can't feel too bad about that! Best regards, Swarm X 00:41, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Out of curiosity, how do you know these coords? Renata (talk) 02:18, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.

Progress report

We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

New coodinators

On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance.

Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive report

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating!

Participation
GOCE May 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their June drive has started.

Coodinator election

The six-month term for our first tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the second tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance. Your project coordinators are S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), Tea with toast (Talk), Chaosdruid (talk), and Torchiest (talk).

Willie Nelson

Hi Slon02, a while ago you corrected copy-edits in Willie Nelson's article. The article still is a GAC, but the prose needs further trimming and corrections. If you have the time to help it would be a great help, a look at the last issues remarked in the review will provide you of further information. Thanks for your time.--GDuwenTell me! 16:52, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Marais, Minnesota

Hello I am newish editor working on some of my first actual article content, as opposed to minor edits. Anyway, I saw that you corrected some mispellings on Grand Marais, Minnesota the page I am working on at the moment, and I was wondering If you could proof my edits there. I want to make sure I am doing this right, and doing a good job. I am a little concerned about the reliability of my sources, but am unsure as to the correct criteria to judge this on. Also, I included a quote, and wanted to make sure this was cool. If you don't have time... no big deal. Majestic Pyre (talk) 01:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be glad to help. It's great to see new content being added, and you're doing a great job so far, but I have a comment on how you're citing your sources. It's great that you are including inline citations, but there's a little bit more information that you should add to our references to prevent link rot and make the reference list provide more information. A good example of what should be included in references is found here. Using quotes is fine, but keep in mind guidelines for them, specifically this one. Someone might object to such a long quote being used, so you might want to consider phrasing it in your own, fewer, words. Finally, there are a few small copyedit issues, but I'll try to deal with them myself. --Slon02 (talk) 01:45, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You For your help! I knew I must be doing something wrong, there is a lot to know. I will read these articles and try and incorperate them as I continue to post. :) Have a nice night Majestic Pyre (talk) 02:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting

Sorry, I was unaware of the policy. I feel it's big drawback that many articles just remain unchecked for days or week. I'm working on improving my written English, and checking into your editing is really great to better understand phrases construction and such. I'm going to remove a few unchecked articles from the list (but you know they're there, just to say ;-D) --Jollyroger (talk) 17:32, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can always put the articles back onto the requests page after some of yours get copyedited- you just can't have three up at one time. Also, the requests page at least gets articles copyedited fairly quickly- usually, articles can be tagged for copyediting for months if not years before a copyeditor gets around to them. It's a problem, but sadly we don't have enough copyeditors to do them quickly enough.--Slon02 (talk) 17:34, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I really understand the issue (I'm an experienced copyeditor on it.wiki), but thought turnover of request on en.wiki was a bit faster. Thanks again, I trimmed the requests down to three. --Jollyroger (talk) 17:38, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Jollyroger has asked for the articles to be looked at again, I have assumed they meant the changes after your notes, and have removed them from the GOCE req page (as that would have put them back over the 3 article limit again). I have also informed them on their talk page.

I added two more requests after the three quakes request were completed, leaving the removal to Clarityfiend (as usual) and just adding a note asking him to give a final check if the requested clarifications were good enough. --Jollyroger (talk) 10:11, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.

Participation

So far, 45 people have signed up for the drive, of which 30 are actively participating, a very high participation rate. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us.

Progress report

Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating!

DYK for Arctic policy of Russia

PanydThe muffin is not subtle 00:20, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(transposed from The Utahraptor's talk) I was looking at this article (as you may recall, it's the one that's been sitting on the Requests page since June that we decided to leave until after the drive) and there is a notice on the talk page that it is being depeloped in tandem with the parallel article on de.wiki. So I am no longer interested in re-vamping the article or treating it as a re-write. I think the best thing to do is treat is as a normal copy edit.

I have copy edited the section titled "Different types". If you would like to have a go next, please find one or two sections of the article that you find manageable and do copy edits. Then, pass it along to another GOCE coordinator for more work. You can post on the Requests page as to which sections you were able to complete. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer on this difficult article. --Dianna (talk) 19:56, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the section "History", over to you :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 23:26, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay- I'll do Politic and Education tomorrow. --Slon02 (talk) 03:16, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Slon02, for helping out with this article. If you are done, could you please hand-off to SMasters? We are almost done. :) Thanks --Dianna (talk) 03:41, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think that I'm done. I'd do more, but it's a busy time. --Slon02 (talk) 03:54, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If SMasters does not have time to do the rest, let me know, but I found these two remaining sections almost devoid of meaning and thus oh i think i fell asleep for a minute there pretty much impossible to edit. But I will do it if SMasters does not have the time --Dianna (talk) 03:59, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone ahead and asked SMasters to finish the article. Chaosdruid got a bit more done, so hopefully he can wrap it up. --Dianna (talk) 13:24, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requests page backlog

I have come up with a way to reduce the backlog on the Guild's Requests page. Each of the Guild's coordinators will copy edit one article per day for however long it takes to completely reduce the backlog. We should start with the oldest requests first, then work our way to the more recent requests. As it has happened before, there are probably several users who requested a copy edit of an article in July that are dissatisfied because their request hasn't been taken care of yet. Also, to prevent this from ever happening again, I think at least one of our coordinators and several volunteers should keep a constant eye on the Requests page in between Backlog elimination drives. What do you think? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:34, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think that if we keep our incentive for request page articles during our copyedit drives, that overall we should keep the backlog under control. Users shouldn't be extraordinarily dissatisfied- almost every WikiProject has a huge backlog, especially when dealing with content reviews (AfC, GA, etc.) I'm not saying that we should excuse our backlog, but it's not a major crisis when we do have one. Finally, I should ask if every coordinator is able to devote the appropriate energy to copyedit an article per day, especially given the length of the articles typical of the requests page and the detail that the process usually involves. --Slon02 (talk) 23:34, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE July 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.

Participation

50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.

Progress report

During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.

Requests page

Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated.

Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there!

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their September 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy editing backlog. The drive will begin on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles in the backlog, as we want to copy edit as many of those as possible. Please consider copy editing an article that was tagged in 2010. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". Input needed

Hi

It seems I have caused a problem with an editor and they have posted on the coordinators talk page. I have replied but it has hit me a little personally and I cannot continue discussion. I already had a great feeling of guilt about the mistaken edits on the Ducie article when they were reverted, hence my lol on their talk page (meant as a "wow how could I have done that, must have been an off day"). As something else seems to be driving the editor on to reverse their seemingly cordial discussion and strike out their previous comments I feel others should comment as I am too close to the matter.

The conversations that brought this about are [[1]] User_talk:Stfg/Archive_1#Boldface (used to be one but were later split) and User_talk:Chaosdruid#Boldface. Discussion on coordinators talk - Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors/Coordinators#GOCE_culture

Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE September 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation

We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.

Progress report

So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.

Rollover words

Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives.

Color RfC help

I noticed you edited a couple of color-related articles. There is RfC here that could use some input, if you have time. --Noleander (talk) 03:11, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE September 2011 Backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.

Participation

There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!

Progress report

During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week.

Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in November, and we hope to see you there!

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

Congressional Award

My apologies for not seeing the "edit summary" box. I have filled it out and it should be satisfactory. We will be uploading a more comprehensive wikipedia page this coming week, complete with more recent events and more information about the program, the award and its history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Congressionalaward (talkcontribs) 21:50, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my Article you rejected.

Hey just guide me about third party sources so that I can completed the references which you have rejected. This article was just a school project and I really am not doing any work without proper knowlege about the school. Waiting for your kindest guide and help! Ameer — Preceding unsigned comment added by AmeerMaliabadi (talkcontribs) 05:33, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. The problem with your article was that it didn't use any independent sources. I suggest that you read WP:RS for what makes up a reliable source. Since the source you used was the website of the school, it is not independent, and thus is not a reliable source. You might also want to read WP:CITE (specifically WP:CITEHOW) to see how to properly cite sources. It's excellent that you used inline citations when writing your article, but it's better to include additional information about the link, such as the author, the title, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.--Slon02 (talk) 19:17, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Mr. Slon02! I have fully understood the problem and you are soon going to see me again in few days! I have read the guides you recommended and learnt all required. Once again take my thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by AmeerMaliabadi (talkcontribs) 03:51, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 backlog elimination drive update

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 46 people sign up for this drive so far, and 28 have copy edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't joined, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We are making great progress in our goal of clearing out the oldest articles (April, May, and June 2010) from the queue. There are 122 articles left in those categories, which compares very favorably with the 281 that were present at the close of the September drive. We have reduced the 2010 backlog by 184 articles so far.

Coordinator elections: The term of our second tranche of coordinators will be running out at the end of the year, and we will be accepting nominations for new coordinators early in December. The election will likely run in the last two weeks of December. Please consider helping out by nominating yourself or someone else in the Guild as one of our coordinators. The commitment is for a six-month term. Thanks.
