Arlington Paul Van Dyke (October 26, 1926 - February 28, 1990) was an American statesman. "Van" was a January 1945 graduate of Middleburgh (New York) Central School. He immediately entered the U.S. Air Force and served with the military police until his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Doris West of Middleburgh during his military tour and they subsequently raised 3 children, Darryl, Deborah, and Kevin. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1946. He joined his father-in-law, Harry J. West in a Ford and Studebaker automobile sales and service dealership. He established a Chrysler dealership in 1957 and a real estate development corporation in 1959. He began his political career as Mayor, Village of Middleburgh (2 terms, 1961-1964) before becoming Supervisor, Town of Middleburgh (3 terms, 1973-1977), Chairman of the Schoharie County Board of Supervisors in 1978 and Assemblyman, 105th Assembly District, New York State Legislature (1979-1980).[1] As a business and community leader, Van served as Vice President of the N.Y.S. Automobile Dealers Association (1990), former Director, President, and Secretary of the College Foundation, SUNY, Cobleskill, N.Y., Director of the Central National Bank Regional Advisory Board, Director of the Schoharie County Community Hospital, member and president of the Middleburgh Rotary Club, Fort Rensselaer Club, Canajoharie, N.Y., the University Club, Albany, N.Y., the Timothy Murphy American Legion Post, Middleburgh, the Cobleskill Agricultural Society, Middleburgh Chamber of Commerce and St. Mark's Lutheran Church Council Vice President in Middleburgh.[2] [3]
