Mark Kidel is a documentary filmmaker and writer working mainly in the UK and France. His award-winning films include portraits of Alfred Brendel, Boy George, Ravi Shankar, Leon Fleisher, Rod Stewart, Bill Viola, Iannis Xenakis, Derek Jarman, Balthus, Tricky, Robert Wyatt and Peter Sellars. A pioneer of the 'rockumentary', Kidel was also the first rock critic of the New Statesman.
