Periya eri as it is called (Big lake) is situated on eastern side of railway track from Pallavarm to Chromepet (Tambaram - Beach Section). This lake was once huge and waste waters from Chrome leather companies situated on western side use to mix in this. In earlier days from the banks of this lake one can see the railway tracks and trains passing through. But this is not possible due to huge encroachment and illegal buildings and constructions that took place over the decade.

There is a burial ground situated on south eastern end of the lake (behind Lakshmi nagar and Ganapathy puram). People use to do the last rites and immerse the ashes in the lake. Now only Garbage pile available in the lake. Not a drop of water available. More over the lake was cut in to two and the Radial road which is connecting Chromepet, Pallavaram to Thoraipakkam was built. On the eastern side, portions of the lake's banks were demolished in order to shell out the water from the lake to pave way for construction of road in 2001 and that was the end of its life. Now only few acres of lake available. The municipality which was ruled both the major dravidian parities didn't made sure this lake was reclaimed. Rather remained as mute spectators.

There is also a huge encroachment inside the lake on Southwest side. The compound walls of that encroachment runs inside the lake from one end to almost to other end.
