How do you do it

You've beaten my bot a good 10 times and thats an event driven bot directly off the IRC feed. How do you do it, you really have me puzzled :) -- Tawker 23:31, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, Tawkerbot2 beats me sometimes as well. :-) I also use the IRC channel, in combination with a script very similar to CDVF. RexNL 00:02, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. You really are fast on those buttons. Have any pointers for a fresh vandalwhacker like myself? --Rob from NY 00:12, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. First of all, you may want to use the Godmode Light script to revert vandalism quickly. Also, CryptoDerk's Vandal Fight might be useful. Have fun, RexNL 00:01, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick "dank u" for your vandalwhacking at the R. Spencer article. I try to keep tabs on it, but any help is most appreciated! Dy-no-miite 02:30, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why does everyone keep deleting my contrabution in the music section? It was up and in there for three months, then it got deleted, it has relevence to the article. Please help.

Hi, many users (including me) believe that the band Gabriels Fallen is not notable enough for inclusion in an article about a religious figure. RexNL 08:24, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism by 69.218.133.122

This IP was accused of vandalism. This is a computer shared among a family and I give my humblest appologies if any user from this computer vandalized the integrity of Wikipedia. I have one wish, beyond stopping vandalism, and that is to know which article was vandalized.

Once again I give my appologies about any vandalism from this IP.

Hello, thanks for your apologies, which I accept. The following articles were vandalized:

Am I ever curious about the aftermath of this one.... --JohJak2 13:23, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stopping vandalism

Since I have an account can you block this IP to prevent any further damage? Would that null the account I created on this IP? I love astronomy and would hate to see those articles vandalized again.

Hi, if I would block that IP, you would also be blocked, even though you have your own account. RexNL 11:03, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rex -

The links I have added are simply fishing sites I frequent that have given me a great deal of information - most of it far too detailed to be included in a wikipedia article. Were I to post content from Jason Neuswanger's site, Troutnut.com, or Zach Matthews' site, The Itinerant Angler, or the Federation of Fly Fishers website, for instance, I would also violate a copyright if I used any of their copyrighted material. However, persons looking to learn more about entomology, fly casting, or the Federation's trout improvement products would be ill served to not know these places exist. Therefore, please do not remove these links - they really are a placeholder for excellent content that would otherwise be copyrighted, and in some cases are reference points for the research I contribute to the main bodies of articles so as not to be in violation of the 'No Original Research Policy.'

Alright, go ahead. Sorry for misinterpreting your intentions. RexNL 18:26, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block

Please block 68.90.54.219 from editing. They vandalised the Dred Scott article. Bibliomaniac15 18:29, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I gave him a second warning. If he continues te vandalize articles, he will be blocked. (You might want to use WP:AIV for block requests in the future.) RexNL 18:31, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, 172.154.12.233 vandalised the same article. You might want to put Dred Scott on your watchlist. People keep typing in nonsense on it. Bibliomaniac15 18:35, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block

Hi there - just to say I was still blocked for several hours after you said that I had been unblocked. Could you tell me why this was? --RichardHarrold 20:47, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I unblocked you 6 minutes after you were blocked ([12]). By default, the system automatically blocks users that are using the same IP address as the user that was blocked, which may explain why you were still blocked after the expiry time. You can read more about this at Wikipedia:Autoblock. Sorry for the inconvenience, RexNL 22:19, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My Disappointment

Sorry I had to delete some vandalizers from NOA's NSiders Forums. They edited one of the part in MP: Hunters section. Why blame me?

I am PeachStar from NSiders Forum but recently banned.

DP sjabloon in 't Engels

Hoi Rex,

--Algont 18:26, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not restore prod tags. Prod is for uncontroversial deletions only, and as the notice says, removing the prod tag is the correct way of objecting to a deletion. Please see WP:PROD#What this process is NOT for. I've gone ahead and sent this to AfD, because I think it needs some attention. NickelShoe 18:40, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dolores del Rio

Thanks for your interest in Dolores Del Rio. I had added the full name of her husband which was "Martinez del Rio" and which she shortened to "Del Rio" for her artistic name. However, her husband was always Jaime Martinez del Rio. Not Jaime Del Rio. I was just trying to help, but if you must keep deleting the correct name, then no one can do anything about it. People who are informed and care about Dolores will know the truth. Thanks.

Many, many thanks

Thanks for the help countering that personal vandal a few minutes ago! Deckiller 00:32, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This user is creating multiple sockpuppets (see my talkpage for a list). Deckiller 01:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see all of them have already been blocked. If you need help, just drop a message at WP:AIV (I'm going offline now). RexNL 01:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also must thank you for helping with that vandal considering they were after me. Thank You. Jedi6-(need help?) 01:43, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, although I do wonder why so many other websites have links plastered all over the place and probably don't get bashed for it - and many of them at the same level I am. If it's pertinent to the subject entry I don't see how it's such a big deal. :P

I know there are still many links to websites that shouldn't be there, but that is of course not an excuse to allow all link spam. RexNL 20:55, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: user 82.15.17.152 aka NoToFrauds aka TroyVaughn aka NoToNutss aka ??

The following letter was sent originally to talk:jondel. I'm sending it to you as well because you were involved in the blocking of the individual in the subject headline. I'm just going to bring it to the attention of the sysops that have been acquainted with the behavior of this individual in the past. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Hi RexNL,

Sorry to bother you with this matter, but the invidivual in the header line here has been creating headaches for editors and sysops alike. I'm coming specifically to you with this note because he was already blocked him once before under the handle-less IP 82.15.17.152 (looks like he erased any trace of that on his discussion page). He has further posed as a sysop, and claimed that his 'partners in crime' are sysops in order to dissuade new editors like myself from making additions. I'm surprised other Sysops haven't proceeded to block his other handles. He has only been destructive on here, and has yet to offer a single constructive edit. Sysop Fire Star has been moderating a discussion on the talk:mahavatar babaji page, which this individual has continued to sabotage. He has also written a note here: talk:TroyVaughn - basically a note to himself - his other handle, illustrating his future intentions as destructive to the spirit of wikipedia. The other sysops that were involved at different times are: CambridgeBayWeather, and Djoorjam.

The result of this behavior is that my colleagues who originally asked me to make the contributions that I have been making since I started with Wikipedia, have told me that it is not worth it to bother with this and waste my time, as this individual will never stop trying to malign us. I am coming to you as a final plea for help before I leave the forum here - what should I do? Is there anything I can do? Or do I just have to take it or leave it? Your suggestions would be appreciated.

My proposal, which you may or may not deem as plausible, is to block all the associated IPs, after doing a review of them to check evidence of them being from the same individual, in order to make it as hard for this person as possible to continue this action. Of course, I understand that I am not an unbiased observer...but that's what I feel to be the most productive course of action. Hamsacharya dan 04:37, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

p.s...you have a sweet userpage..

Hi, only admins with the CheckUser permission can check for all user names and IP addresses associated with one particular user, so unfortunately this is not something I can help you with. RexNL 20:53, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

My friend told me that you can edit the sites on this Encyclopedia. I didn't believe her, so I kind of vandilized, actually, really messed up the Spoiler page. It worked and I didn't know how to delete it so I'm glad it was fixed!

~sorry

It's no big deal. The change has been reverted and no further action will be taken. RexNL 17:08, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for un-vandalizing the junk food article. Hope you taught him that vandalizing is bad : p

A question regarding images

I hope you dont mind but may ask why some icon images have a grey background and when you resize them on a page the background turns white? Is there any way to make the grey background turn white without resizing? Thank you! Tutmosis 16:09, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I suppose you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer. That browser doesn't display PNG images with alpha channel (for transparency) correctly. You might want to use GIF images instead, which Internet Explorer does support. Or use a browser like Mozilla Firefox. RexNL 17:08, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dazzlingfiregirl

I've unblocked Dazzlingfiregirl because she had not been warned about blanking pages. Her edit was not blatantly malicious, so it didn't warrant an immediate block. —Guanaco 18:47, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lagos

Hi, why the revert at Lagos? Or did I miss something? Wha! On second look I see you didn't revert me, but a impersonator of mine!

May I ask you to look into the behaviour of Nigeriamajor (talk · contribs) and Peter Henry (talk · contribs)? I feel they're harassing me. I'm withdrawing from Nigeria and Lagos for a while, to avoid pouring more oil on the flames, but the spammers are just waiting for their chance. Hi,

I wonder if you could do me (and the community) a favour. I have somehow got into the role of 'policing' this best selling music artists list, which I know you've stumbled across before. It is regularly vandalized, or added to without people following the verifiability/sourcing guidances - which are uphelp a bit strictly on the page to avoid the anarchy that it used to be (it was nominated for deletion twice that it was so bad).

Anyway, I'm away from Sunday 19th March-Saturday 25th March and the page really needs to be 'looked after' by someone. To give you some idea, in the last week it has received over 90 edits, many of which have been reverted as they:

  • remove sourced artists
  • add artists with wikipedia pages as the source
  • add unsourced artists
  • are vandalsim

Anyway, if you would take over the 'policing' role for a week I would be eternally greatful? Robdurbar 20:04, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am willing to give the article some extra attention for next week, but unfortunately I cannot spend a lot of time on that article alone. Anyway, thanks for the message; it is good to know that the article is prone to be vandalized. RexNL 21:00, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page

Very nice user page, though I find it galling to not be able to link images... when will this option be, if ever, implemented in Wikipedia?

BTW, perhaps you get to know approximately how many wikipedians are there on english wiki, and wikipedia of which language has most articles per people that speak that language (people that speak that language... sort of clumsy, I know... but I would be grateful if you'd find another word)? I'm interested because slovenian Wikipedia certainly (perhaps?) tops the list I'm asking for.

Post Scriptum: Please accept my apology for inconvenience with French rebels or sth...

-- Greetings from Slovenia

Hi, thanks for the compliment. I will make the images linkable shortly. You can see how many registered users there are on the English Wikipedia at Special:Statistics. For other statistics, you may find this link interesting. I don't really know if there is a list of "number of articles per person that speaks the language". RexNL 22:54, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is this image-linking optional only on english Wiki? Could you enlighten me on how do you make such links? (I grabbed myself an account inbetween...) --EuroVelo 23:08, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is also available for some other Wikipedia's. If you are familiar with templates, you can take a look at Template:Click. In fact, that template was based on the Dutch template nl:Sjabloon:Klik, which I created. RexNL 23:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kosovo article

Regarding reverts by User:Ilir pz, please read his comments on his own page User talk:Ilir pz. Pay attention to the mention of IP spoofing. I have been noticing a pattern of 3RR and then unsigned reverts going on in the article. As I am no administrator, I do not have the skills to point my finger at anyone, but found Ilir's words quite amusing... Asterion 23:06, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Both of you, RexNL and Asterion are vandalizing. You both violated the 3RR within 24hrs. Who gives you that right? And yeah, IP spoofing, that is lovely. Try stop me!! Of course I am going to revert that article as many times as you (who have nothing to do with the content of it) do it for fun. I'll do it for a cause, which I even risked my life for. From KosovA with love, Ilir pz 00:18, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent vandalism effort

Hi, I recently noted you reverted one of my reversions of vandalism to an older, incorrect version. Hopefully it was just a mistake because the vandal was rapidly changing the article (Seperation of power). Anyway, just letting you know, hopefully it was a mistake. Thanks. Kuzaar 23:08, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, that was a mistake. RexNL 23:11, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Laserdisc

Why do you keep reverting my change to the Laserdisc article?? I'm adding material, not vandalizing. I'm getting a bit tired of you "editors" just ripping my changes down without any acknowledgment as to wether or not they're negative additions.

You are adding a list of "Significant Players" with only Pioneer branded players. It seems to be advertising and incomplete. Also it is not consistent with the layout of the article. RexNL 01:07, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I have no idea how you reverted the changes to my user page faster than I got there, being that the vandal told me on IRC as he was doing it... wow. ZoFreX 20:47, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A bit too aggressive?

I appreciate your anti-vandalism efforts---you're performing a real service and you should have the gratitude of all wikipedia users. But you just reverted a change (Barbara Nitke) I made that had a perfectly valid reason for it---there was a Supreme Court decision today in a case discussed in that article, and I updated the page to reflect that (and to eliminate some parts of the article that are no longer relevant now that the case has been decided). You reverted it and sent me a "level 1 warning." But the reasons for the change were obvious and important, and the edit summary reflected that the edit referred to the court decision. So, I'm just asking, please be a bit more careful in the future. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Theleek 21:16, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry. You are absolutely right and regret my initial response. RexNL 21:19, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for cleaning up my talk page just now. Oddly enough, while I've doled out a fair few "test" warnings today, that IP address is one that I hadn't warned. How bizarre... --stephenw32768 <talk> 23:20, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting the blanking vandal :) — Deckiller 23:44, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I fail to see your point, and I've carefully read all the pages you pointed me to. An article about Mahjong can certainly benefit from an external link to an online version of the game. What better way to learn about the game than try an online version? Not to mention that the online version is free and I added a link directly to it.

Most of the articles I've edited already had external links to online versions their respected game.

Korzon 23:53, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits make me suspicious, because you always seem to link to the same gaming site, which is not well-known and has a Google ranking of 0 (the lowest you can get). Why do you always link to that site? RexNL 23:54, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
you mean playedonline? I found that site a week ago and it has a lot of old classic games that I like. What's google ranking? Korzon 23:58, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I just read about Google ranking. So you think that I'm trying to get playedonline links so that Google would rank it higher? I see how you'd think that - but I'm not the owner of that site so I don't really have an agenda here. I have to ask though, if the link is useful and makes an article better - what's wrong with giving the owner of the site a link? How else are people supposed to get links to their sites? Korzon 00:05, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As you may have read, Google ranking (more correctly Google PageRank) is a measure for the "value" (popularity and importance) of a website. For instance, many universities, major corporations and popular websites have a high PageRank, because they are considered valuable websites. But if a website has PageRank 0, like playedonline, the website is not considered very "important" (few websites link to it etc.). This made me wonder why you always link to it. Many people, not necessarily you, try to use Wikipedia to promote a certain website by linking to it from a lot of articles. This is against Wikipedia's policy and such links will be removed. In fact, Wikipedia tries to limit its number of external links. Maybe it was not your intention to "spam", but still... Maybe you should try to focus more on the articles themselves than on the links. Your contributions are very welcome! RexNL 00:09, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well I intend on making contributions in many shapes and forms. Anyway I did some background checking on playedonline (archive.org/google cache) and found that it's a new site. I wont add any more links to it because new sites tend to disappear and change and I don't want to leave articles with broken links. If I see that site is still around in a few months and has a higher pagerank, is it then ok to link to it when it makes sense and adds value to an article? Korzon 00:14, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. If a link add value to an article, it is more than welcome. For the moment, I think it is a wise choice to stop linking to that site. At least I'm glad to know that your intentions were good. RexNL 00:18, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you calling this IP address a sockpuppet of me? Mike Garcia 00:34, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I tried to revert vandalism. I will revert myself. User:RJN placed the template by the way. RexNL 00:36, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I placed that tag because I strongly suspect that User:69.12.166.47 is a sockpuppet of Mike Garcia. They are both editing the same articles and reverting to the incorrect usage of collective proper nouns repeatedly. Also, see the block log for the IP, other admins suspected that it's Mike Garcia as well. —RJN 00:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the block of 68.96.23.7

(NOTE: All times are UTC)

Could you please shorten 68.96.23.7's block? This IP was given a warning on March 3 at 21:49 and didn't make any more edits after recieving this warning. However, he was blocked on March 4 at 1:03 anyways. The block lasts until July 4 2014 at 1:03 (100 months.) I think that this is an unfair block and it should be shortened conisiderably.

P.S.: If you want, you can discuss it with whoever you need to.

Hi, please contact Drini. He set the block, and I'd rather leave the decision about the fairness of the block up to him. RexNL 21:30, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hoi Rex,

Groeten, --Algont 19:35, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

js and C:\

I noticed that you have java being written from "localhost"...is it possible for me to write javascript from a location on my hard-drive? What JS code would I use? Thanks.Voice-of-AlleT|@|ESP 17:37, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to access files via localhost, you will need to install a web server on your PC, like Apache. You can make it a private server if you want, so that it cannot be accessed from the outside world. If you put a JavaScript file on your own server, you can use a code similar to my monobook.js. If you have no web server installed and you don't want to install one either, you can try a syntax like file:///C:/monobook.js instead of http://localhost/... I don't know if that works though. Good luck, RexNL 18:39, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
