Guvera is a new breed of online music download and streaming service that allows members to download and stream music for free, and artists get paid.

Guvera offers members 100% DRM Free 256kbs MP3 music downloads paid for (or sponsored) by brands from a large music catalogue available to members in Australia and the United States.[1]

Guvera has launched offering music content to members and plans to expand it's free digital downloads and streaming to include movies and TV shows.[2]

Eigenschaften

Guvera was established to provide a revolutionary solution to the illegal downloading of copyright digital content, while simultaneously addressing the desire for marketers to use a more targeted advertising medium to engage customers than is currently available. Guvera has developed the technology to provide a new e-commerce model for digital content to be bought and sold while members receive content for free and the artists get paid.

Music Catalog

Currently Guvera has more than 3 million songs available for download and streaming.[3] Guvera has signed licensing agreements with Universal Music Group,[4] EMI,[5] Orchard,[6] InGrooves,[7] IODA,[8] Mushroom/Liberation,[9] Shock Entertainment, Valleyarm, the Australian Performing Rights Association, and several rights bodies: APRA, AMCOS, BMI, Rightsflow,[10] SESAC [11] AND ASCAP, enabling it to deliver free streams and downloads via its website.

MP3 Quality

Guvera distributes DRM Free MP3 downloads in high quality 256kbs format.[12]

Streaming and Playlists

Guvera allows its users to create an unlimited number of playlists online with the ability easily share their playlists with friends.

Brands and Advertisers

Guvera’s technology makes it possible for brands and advertisers to target broad or very specific consumer groups in a non-intrusive/non-disruptive way, showcasing particular aspects of a brand’s personality with relevant music genres in their branded music channels.[13] Content can be downloaded and streamed via branded (channels or) micro-sites from within Guvera’s platform, and the advertisers plays the role of selecting music content (or soundtrack) defining it’s personality and aligning tastes with the targeted audience.[14]

History

Guvera was incorporated in 2008, and launched beta in Australia February 2010,[15] and in the US March, 2010.[16][17]

Guvera was initially released as a beta to a select group of users by invitation only.[18]

In August 2011, Guvera appointed former Virgin Music and Warner Brothers CEO Phil Quartararo as its Global Head of Music.[19]

In September 2011 Guvera moved into new headquarters in The Rocket in Robina, Gold Coast, Australia.[20]

In March 2012, Guvera announced a mobile platform soon to be release to the public.[21]

Finanzierung

Guvera was initially funded by AMMA Private Investment out of Australia.[22] Guvera raised about $25m from its base of about 1000 smaller sophisticated investors primarily made up of accounting firms and other financial services businesses.[23]

  • Guvera was ranked #8 of 2010’s Top 10 Music Start-ups by Billboard Magazine.[24]
  • Guvera was featured on Fox Business in April 2010 as “The iTunes Killer”.[25]
