The 48-year-old native of Terrace Bay, Ontario had an illustrious playing career, toiling 14 years in the NHL with the Oakland Seals, Cleveland Barons, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins. Simmer had two 56-goal seasons and over 700 points during his NHL career (342-369-711). He also participated in three NHL All-Star Games while with the Kings and played left wing on the “Triple Crown” line with Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor. He still ranks eighth on the Kings’ all-time leading scorers list with 222-244-466 totals in 384 games. Simmer was also a two-time NHL First Team All-Star. With Boston in 1986, Simmer won the prestigious Bill Masterton Trophy, given to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey
