The Journal of Experimental Psychology was a bimonthly journal published by American Psychological Association. The journal, established in 1916, contained articles relating to experimental psychology. In 1975, the journal became published as four independently edited and distributed sections. [1]

History

The first issue of the journal was published by the Psychological Review Company, Princeton, N. J., and printed by the New Era Printing Company, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The following journals are currently published as independently edited and distributed sections of the former Journal of Experimental Psychology:

  • Allgemein ISSN 0096-3445
  • Human Learning and Memory ISSN 0096-1515
  • Human Perception and Performance ISSN 0096-1523
  • Animal Behavior Processes ISSN 0097-7403

In 1980, the editor of Human Learning and Memory, Richard M. Shiffrin, announced that he intended to "broaden the scope of the journal to include a more general set of topics in human cognition", and that the journal would be renamed:

  • Learning, Memory, and Cognition.[2] The last issue of Human Learning and Memory was 1981 volume 7 issue 6. Learning, Memory, and Cognition started in 1982 as volume 8, issue 1. ISSN 0278-7393
