Lani Groves

Lani Groves [1] was born in Bloemfontein in 1980, and has been playing the cello and singing since she was five years old, performing regularly at musical events across the Gauteng region in South Africa.

From 2006 to 2011, Lani formed one quarter of the band Electro Muse - now "The Muses" - an electric string quartet, and has been involved in television, stage shows, previously played as part of band ‪Ménage à Trois‬ as well as being a backing artist on a number of other tracks.

Most recently Lani featured as a cellist and backing singer on Laurie Levine’s third album “Six Winters” and contributed to a new band “Tango Loca” who offer Argentinian Tango and French cafe style music. Lani now is working on a more permanent basis supporting Laurie Levine at live events, shows and gigs.

Aside from her musical talents Lani also is an actress. Having studied drama at The University Of Pretoria, Lani has a number of parts in TV series under her belt. In 2004, she played a bar-lady in “The Res” by Franz Marx, after which she played various characters for South African television programmes such as “Society“, “7e Laan” and “Kompleks” for KykNet channel. In 2009 she starred in a locally produced film “The Dykumentary” for the Out of Africa film festival.

In 2012, alongside actor and musician Tiaan Rautenbach, a new band called Soozie and the Cheesewagon was formed.
