Nicholas Whitman is an American photographer. He is best known for his work chronicling major renovations. Whitman's 2001 Mass MoCA: From Mill to Museum documents the transformation of a sprawling[3] electronics plant into the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art[4], a process also depicted in the independent film Downside Up[5]. Similarly, Whitman's 2008 book, The Colonial Theatre, showcases the transformation of the Miller Supply Company warehouse of Pittsfield, Massachusetts into a functional playhouse.[6]

A graduate of RIT's photography program, Whitman was Curator of Photography at the New Bedford Whaling Museum from 1978 to 1986.[7] In addition to his independent work, he is currently an instructor at Williams College.[8]
