J Sainsbury (or Sainsbury's) is a chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom. Its company J Sainsbury plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and also operates Shaw's Supermarkets which it took over in 1987.

Sainsbury's was established in 1869 when John James and Mary Ann Sainsbury opened a store in Drury Lane in Holborn, London.
