Safestore Holdings plc, a real estate investment trust (REIT), is a FTSE All-Share self storage company, listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. [2]

Safestore is the UK’s largest and Europe’s second largest provider of self storage solutions. Their principal operations are located in the UK, where it has 97 stores including two business centres trading under the Safestore name and a further 25 stores in Paris trading as Une Pièce en Plus.[3]

History

Safestore began trading with the purchase of three freehold properties in London in 1998 and in the same year floated on AIM. In 2003 it de-listed from AIM after £39.8 million Management Buyout supported by Bridgepoint Capital. In 2004 it acquired Mentmore plc for £209 million which added 31 freehold/long leasehold and 16 short leasehold stores, under the ‘Spaces’ brand and seven sites in France under the ‘Une Pièce en Plus’ brand to the portfolio. The company continued to open new stores along with the acquisition of 17 stores from Access France in 2005, it disposed of seven non-core stores, adding ten to Une Pièce en Plus, the Group’s French subsidiary. In 2007 Safestore successfully listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. [4]
