Yuri Yakovich (Russian: Юрий Якович; born November 30, 1962) is a Russian chess Grandmaster (1990), FIDE Senior Trainer (2012).
Graduated with honors (1985) from Kuibyshev Aviation Institute named after academician S.P. Korolev (Samara State Aerospace University named after academician S.P. Korolev (National Research University)) major in radiotechnics.
Chess achievements
Silver medalist of European team championship 1997 as a member of Russian national team, the winner of European Cup 1997 as a member of club “Ladja (Azov)” , the winner of Russian team championship 1997 as a member of club “Ladja”, the winner of Swedish team championship 2000 as a member of club “Sollentuna”, the winner of Moscow championship 1996, the prizewinner of international tournaments in Russia, Cube, Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, India, China, Egypt and other countries. The participant of major leagues of 53rd (Kiev, 1986) and 58th (Moscow, 1991) USSR championships.
Coaching
Head Coach of Russian women’s chess national team from 2000 till 2006.

In 2005 Yuri Yakovich founded Togliatti grandmaster chess school for advanced young players, which has become one of the most successful chess centres in Russia.

He was a member of the silver medal winning Russian team at the 1997 European Team Chess Championship.[1]
In 2003 he tied for 1st–3rd with Evgenij Miroshnichenko and Alexander Potapov in the Fakel Jamala tournament in Noyabrsk.[2] In 2007, he tied for 1st–6th with Vitali Golod, Mateusz Bartel, Mikhail Kobalia, Michael Roiz and Zahar Efimenko in the 16th Monarch Assurance Isle of Man International tournament.[3]
Yakovich is the author of the books Play the 4 f3 Nimzo-Indian, published by Gambit Publications in 2004 and Sicilian Attacks, published by New In Chess in 2010.
