San Damiano is a community within Brugherio, located in the far north of the City. The community has formed around a church and a monastery of San Damiano, dating from the ninth and eleventh centuries, both owned by the monastery of Saint Ambrose in Milan. It belonged to the land known as San Damiano which was reported in a document dated 1280. San Damiano was the seat of the municipality until 1866.[1]

The Brugherio inhabitants were mostly farmers or in activities related to agriculture. In 1751 there were 71 inhabitants. The Villa-Viganoni Benaglia was built at the end of the 1700s but it is now demolished[2] and there are only a few traces of it remaining with a park. There is a church dedicated to St. Anna which was once called the chapel of San Damiano. This may have been because this was the site of his oratory.[1]
