WBUV (104.9 FM, "News Radio 104.9 FM"), is a news and talk radio formatted radio station based in Gulfport–Biloxi-Pascagoula, Mississippi. The station is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., and they broadcast their format at 104.9 MHz with an ERP of 16 kW.
History
WBUB was a country station in Mobile, Al but licensed to Moss Point, MS. Owner iHeartMedia, Inc. (formally Clear Channel Communications) moved the signal to the Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula market and it became WBUV, which started as an urban contemporary and mainstream urban outlet as "V104.9" (playing Hip Hop, R&B, and Urban Gospel), and also hosted the nationally syndicated Doug Banks Morning Show and later the Russ Parr Morning Show. The station competed with WJZD (Gulfport, Mississippi) and WBLX (Mobile, Alabama) in the Alabama/Mississippi Gulf Coast's urban contemporary market. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the station began to broadcast 24-hour news & information to keep the community up-to-date on the hurricane recovery efforts in the area; it has remained in the news/talk format ever since. The station has quickly risen to be one of the top ranked stations along the Coast.
Programming
The slate of programming is a who's who of the most popular talk shows in the US. "Gulf Coast Mornings," airs 5a-8am and is a live local broadcast with news and information of local interest hosted by Kipp Greggory. Glenn Beck is 8-11am, Rush Limbaugh is 11a-2p, Sean Hannity is 2-5p, Andy Dean is 5-8p, Todd Schnitt is 8p-12M and Coast to Coast AM. Weekends feature Rush and Fox Sports Radio. The station is home for Ole Miss and Miss State Football, Pascagoula High School Football and now the New Orleans Saints. With its 10 years of Operation since Hurricane Katrina, the station has undergone various talk show hosts changes. Kipp Gregory left the show in 2012, moved to FM103.1. and was replace with Steve Taylor and Mike Mankiewicz. Shortly after Kipp left, the Michael Savage show, Clark Howard, and Schnitt show were subsequently all removed from the lineup. New programs to the show at the time were Sean Hannity and Andy Dean. The Andy Dean Show was removed after one year in 2014 and replaced with the Joe Pags show from 5pm to 8pm, followed by the 8pm-11pm Mark Levin show introduced sometime during the winter of 2014/15. Since the Joe Pags Show was considered a fill-in for the sudden removal of the Andy Dean show, Joe Pags last show on 104.9 was in July 2015 and replace with the Megan McCain show. Recently in August, Steve Taylor and Mike Mankiewicz departed the show for complete removal of the 5am-8am Gulfcoast Morning Show and is now replaced by the Gerry V Show out of New Orleans. The current line up as of September 1, 2015 is; Gerry V Show 5am-9am; Glenn Beck 9am-11am; RL 11am-2pm; Sean Hannity 2pm-5pm; Megan McCain 5pm-8pm; Mark Levine 8pm-12am
