SS Guararea was a Brazilian Cargo ship that collided with SS Britannia (1909) on the Santos bar off Ilha Des Palmas, Brazil, when on route from Santos in ballast.

Bauwesen

Guararema was constructed in 1919 at the Ardrossan Dockyard & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. shipyard in Ardrossan, United Kingdom. She was completed in 1919 and she was named War Avon first. She served for different countries and companies under different names until she was finally sold to Brazil as Guararema in 1939.

The ship was 47.2 metres (154 ft 10 in) long, with a beam of 8 metres (26 ft 3 in) and a depth of 3.3 metres (10 ft 10 in). The ship was assessed at 548 GRT. She had a 1 x 2 cyl compound engines driving a single screw propeller. The engine was rated at 91 nhp.

Sinking

On 4 March 1949, Guararema was on on route from Santos when she collided with SS Britannia and sank on the Santos bar off Ilha Des Palmas, Brasilien (24°0′N 46°19′W / 24.000°N 46.317°W / 24.000; -46.317). There were no casualties.[1]
