"Follow Me Home"
Song

"Follow Me Home" is an pop song written by British group Sugababes (ex-member Mutya) and Karen Poole among others for their fourth album Taller In More Ways (2005). The music video for the song was shot in Czech Republic

Song information

It is was released as the fourth single from the album on June 5, 2006 in the United Kingdom.

The CD single release includes a cover version of Hard-Fi's, "Living for the Weekend", which the group recorded live at BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge as a B-side.

The single only made number thirty-two in UK singles charts, the group's lowest charting to date. It sold just 5,000 copies in the UK.

Speculation is that the low chart position of #32 was due to the fans discontent with the song even being released in the first place. Follow Me Home was predominantly written by Mutya as a song for her daughter. After Mutya's departure from the group, fans saw the release of Follow Me Home as a disloyal move to Mutya and fans of the Sugababes, and a backlash was formed against the group, mainly newcomer Amelle. Another reason could be because the song is a wintery-sounding ballad, but was released in the summer months, failing to catch the attention of radio and music channels who were more focused on summer anthems.

Music video

"Follow Me Home" features a music video that is set in Warsaw during the Cold War. The group play the parts of ‘honeytrappers’ – beautiful women who manipulated high ranking military personnel out of secrets. The Sugababes wanted to adopt a different angle and avoid the traditional ballad video, to show a different side to the song. While there is no strong storyline to the video, it adopts a sombre mood, reflecting the sadness within the song. The girls are all wearing original vintage fashion from the 70’s and 80’s and the video was shot in a hotel that was specifically built for the communist leaders of the time. At these hotels they would throw lavish parties that would never be permitted back home in Moscow.
