Thesis Moral Evaluation in Early Buddhism: From the Perspective of Western Philosophical Analysis

P. D. Premasiri is Emeritus Professor of Buddhist Studies at University of Peradeniya and President of the Buddhist Publication Society, Kandy, Sri Lanka.[citation needed] He is a scholar in the areas of ethics and early Buddhist philosophy.[citation needed] Some of his work has been assembled in the text Studies in Buddhist Philosophy and Religion[1]

Early life

P. D. Premasiri was born in Kotte in the suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He received his primary and secondary education from Christian College, Kotte presently known as Jayawardenepura Mahavidyalaya.[citation needed]

University education

He entered the University of Peradeniya as a student of Faculty of Arts.[citation needed] He completed his undergraduate in Pali Language and received the B.A. with First Class honors.[citation needed] From the University of Cambridhe, he received B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy.[citation needed] He obtained the Doctoral Degree from the University of Hawaii, USA.[citation needed]

Career as lecturer

He started his teaching career as a lecturer at the Department of Pali and Buddhist studies, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.[2] Later, he worked at the Department of Philosophy of the same university.[2] For a short period, he taught at the University of Kelaniya.[3] Until his retirement, he worked as professor of Pali and Buddhist Studies and the Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Peradeniya.[3] On the retirement of P.D. Premasiri, Professor Asanga Tilakarane wrote: Senior Professor P. D. Premasiri of Peradeniya University retires from his university service at the end of this year after 42 years of long teaching career...With his newly acquired freedom, he will surely be better positioned to work for his own personal development as well as the uplift of the happiness and well-being of others.[3]

Contribution to Buddhist ethics

Premasiri has produced several notable research papers on Buddhist Ethics. His views have been accepted,challennged and reviewed by other scholars in the field.[4]
