Cordell played college baseball at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft. He began playing in the Rangers' organization in 2013, posting a .248 batting average with the Spokane Indians.[2]

In 2014, Cordell started the baseball season with the Hickory Crawdads and was later promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in late August of that year. Prior to the 2015 season, he was converted from an outfielder to shortstop.[3] He started the season with the High Desert Mavericks.

Kellin Lee Deglan (born May 3, 1992) is a Canadian professional baseball catcher for the Texas Rangers organization. Drafted out of R.E. Mountain Secondary high school in 2010 by the Rangers.[7]

Despite not being able to play high school baseball, Deglan gained enough attention playing with the Langley Blaze of the wood-bat British Columbia Premier Baseball League (which had produced Justin Morneau, a big left-handed-hitting catcher himself when drafted) and with the Canadian Junior National Team to be drafted 22nd overall by the Texas Rangers in the 2010 amateur draft. He signed for a below-slot bonus of $1 million. Baseball America viewed Deglan as a second or third round talent, praising his defense and power potential but seeing concerns about his overall offensive profile.

Beginning his professional career in 2010 as an 18-year-old with the AZL Rangers in the rookie class Arizona league, Deglan spent all of 2013 with the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, but was reurned to Class-A Hickory Crawdads for 2014.
