Pesotum is a village in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The population was 551 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Pesotum is located at 39°54′50″N 88°16′26″W / 39.913951°N 88.273975°W / 39.913951; -88.273975.[1]

According to the 2010 census, Pesotum has a total area of 0.598 square miles (1.55 km2), of which 0.59 square miles (1.53 km2) (or 98.66%) is land and 0.008 square miles (0.02 km2) (or 1.34%) is water.[2]

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 521 people, 218 households, and 153 families residing in the village. The population density was 938.0 people per square mile (359.2/km²). There were 221 housing units at an average density of 397.9 per square mile (152.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.04% White, 0.38% Asian, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.19% of the population. There were 218 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.87.

In the village the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $49,107, and the median income for a family was $58,250. Males had a median income of $36,696 versus $27,422 for females. The per capita income for the village was $21,191. About 1.4% of families and 2.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.8% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
