Frances Richards (Canadian artist)
Appearance
Frances Richards (1852 - 1934) was a Canadian painter. Born in Brockville, she studied in France at the Academie Julian. Her biggest claim to fame is that her painting of Oscar Wilde inspired Wilde to write The Picture of Dorian Gray. [1]
However, her contributions were greater than this. A portraitist, her painting of Canada's first Supreme Court Justice, William Buell, her uncle, still hangs in the foyer of the Supreme Court of Canada building in Ottawa.
