Jeffrey Jones

Jeffrey Duncan Jones (born September 28, 1946) is an American character actor. He has one son, Julian Coutts, born in 1971, who mostly works behind the scenes in Hollywood.

Jones was born in Buffalo, New York to Douglas Bennett Jones, who died when he was young, and Ruth, who urged Jones towards a career in acting. He has had notable roles in films such as Amadeus, Howard the Duck, Beetlejuice, Mom and Dad Save The World, The Pest, The Devil's Advocate, Out on a Limb, where he played murderous psychopathic twins alongside Matthew Broderick, The Hunt for Red October, Sleepy Hollow, Ravenous, Houseguest, Ed Wood, The Crucible, and is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the crazed high school dean of students, Edward R. Rooney (also with Broderick), in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). He was also the star of the very short-lived 1989 CBS situation comedy The People Next Door, where he played a cartoonist whose imagination was so vivid that the things he imagined might immediately come to life.

In 2003, Jones was arrested for possession of child pornography and employing a 14-year-old boy to pose for pornographic photographs. [1] Jones pled no contest to the felony charges and was ordered to undergo counseling and register as a sex offender. [2] In July 2004, he was arrested by Florida police after failing to notify them of his change of residence as required under Megan's Law. [3] He has since been sued in civil court by the minor, who is now an adult. [4]

Jones last appeared in the HBO series Deadwood as newspaperman A. W. Merrick. Jones is also an alumnus of the college fraternity Beta Theta Pi.
