Tarah Hogue

Biography

Tarah Hogue is a Canadian born writer and curator of Métis/French Canadian and Dutch ancestry. Hogue currently resides in the unceded Coast Salish Territories of Vancouver, BC, Canada. [1] In September 2017, Hogue became the first Senior Curatorial Fellow, Indigenous Art at the Vancouver Art Gallery [2] [3].


Early Life

Tarah was born in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Tarah holds a Bachelor of Art History from Queen’s University as well as a Master of Art History in Critical and Curatorial Studies from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC. [4]


Career

Located in the downtown Eastside of Vancouver BC, Tarah co-founded Gam Gallery in 2009, an exhibition space and artist studio [5]. Tarah curates Satellite Gallery’s first group show ‘The Public to Decode the Conventions of Art and Exhibition-making, November 27th, 2010 through January 23rd, 2011 [6]. September 6th through December 1st, 2013, Tarah curated ‘Witnesses, Art and Canada’s Indian Residential Schools [7]. Tarah contributes vocals and percussion for Vancouver based band, ‘Those Boys Cassidy’ recorded in 2014 [8]. Tarah had been a curator at Grunt Gallery from 2014-2017. [9] Tarah currently co-curates a touring exhibition #CallResponse [10] along with artists Maria Hupfield [11] and Tania Willard [12] at the Grunt Gallery. In September 2017, Tarah was appointed the first senior curatorial level focusing on indigenous art at the Vancouver Art Gallery [13].
