Guy Beahm (born March 10, 1982), more commonly known by his online alias Dr DisRespect, is an American Twitch.tv streamer and internet personality. He is known for his personality and attire. Beahm has garnered over 2 million followers on the platform.[1]

Career

The DrDisRespect character originated from Beahm playing Halo 2 on the Xbox, which had proximity voice chat, where players could engage each other, in real-time. This created an opportunity for Beahm to showcase a "dominant character" as he was fairly good at the game and could "back up the talk, which made it more genuine."[1]

Beahm and his roommates began posting content to YouTube, on January 5, 2010.

On March 16, 2011, Beahm was appointed as the community manager of Sledgehammer Games.[2] He was promoted to level designer and helped create many of the multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.[3]

Beahm joined Justin.tv while he was working at Sledgehammer. He quit Sledgehammer in 2015 to focus on full-time streaming.

Beahm gained a following from playing battle royale games, starting with H1Z1 before switching to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds,[1] and later on Fortnite. He has been called "a hyper-caricature of how the stereotypical male gamer views himself".[4]

In December 2017, he took a two-month hiatus from streaming to attend to personal issues regarding his family life.[5] He returned on February 5, 2018, setting a Twitch streaming record, with a total of 388,000 concurrent viewers.[6][7][8]

Beahm is not characterized as a professional gamer, but regarded as an entertainer in the streaming industry. He has been described by ESPN as "a WWE character in the competitive gaming world". Beahm wears a mullet wig, has an oversized mustache and almost always wears sunglasses.[4]

Bildung

Guy graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where he played Division II NCAA basketball. [9]
