Bally's Atlantic City started life in 1901 first as the Marlborough House owned by Josiah White III and his son John. In 1905 the Whites acquired the neighboring piece of property from the Children's Seashore House and built the Blemheim Hotel. The White family continued to own and operated the property until 1977 when Reese Palley purchased the property, Palley planned to and was successful in getting the Blenheim part of the hotel placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings while planning to raze the Marlborough to make way for a new modern hotel. However he step aside after the Bally's Manufacturing Corporation purchased a controlling interest in the project.

After Bally's took control they announced plans to razed the Marlborough, Blenheim, and the adjacent Dennis Hotel to make way for the new Park Place Casino and Hotel. As part of the licensing process and investigation into alleged ties to the Mob the New Jersey Casino Control Commission stipulated that Bally's Chairman and CEO William O'Donnell would be required to step down and sell all interest in the company, This is the second time the commission took this action, the first was when Clifford Perlman, Chairman of Caesars World Inc. and his brother were required to resign. On December 30, 1979 the NJCCC granted Bally's a temporary license for it's Park Place casino.

In 1994 Bally's Manufacturing Corporation spins off it's casino operations including Bally's Atlantic City, Bally's Las Vegas and Bally's Reno.

In 1996 Hilton Hotels purchases Bally's Entertainment which includes the above named casino in a Leveraged Buyout.

In 1998 Bally's Park Place becomes part of Park Place Entertainment after Hilton divests itself of it's gaming operations.

In 2000 Bally's Park Place becomes Bally's Atlantic City.

In 2004 Bally's Atlantic City becomes part of Park Place Entertainment when Caesars Entertainment changes its name.

In 2005 Bally's Atlantic City is purchased by Harrah's Entertainment as part of a multi-billon dollar Leveraged Buy-Out of Caesars Entertainment.
