A cast iron mechanical bank is a toy bank with mechanical parts. The bank accepts coins, usually a penny, in a gimmicky way. For example, by cocking a mechanism of a bank shaped like an elephant, the elephants trunk will pick up the coin and deposit it. These banks were typically made of cast iron.
