My daughter began her freshman year in college at St. Joseph's College in Maine just this fall(8/2006). She has been quite disturbed by the campus atmosphere and attitude. Many students seem to be there for the binge-drinking experience and very often the ambulance and police are summoned to campus to aid those that have drunk themselves nearly to death, or at least into a fit of unholy behavior. Apparently the campus administrators are quite adept at keeping this behavior and information from the public and prospective students and their families. Due to this and other concerns, my daughter is working on transferring out of St. Joe's for the spring semester. Today I called the office of student affairs and very politely asked for some help in resolving a housing issue for my daughter. They told me that they would have a particular advisor return my call. Just so happens! my daughter was in the outer office just minutes later and overheard the staff say that her psycho mother had called earlier and if she wanted to she could just take her money and go home. They don't care!! Wow! Over $30,000.00 to obtain a questionable education there for a year and they don't care. I wonder if this disease of arrogance and self-will runs all the way through the entire staff and board of directors. I write this in order to offer the next person a more realistic view of at least one family's experience with this less than stellar institution. I hope that no one else makes this expensive mistake.
