The Škoda Scala is small family car based on the concept Vision RS of Czech automaker Škoda Auto. The car is intended to fit between the Fabia and the Octavia,[1] and to be a competitor to the cars in volume hatchback segment, such as the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Opel Astra.[2] Development lasted four years, the official premiere was held on December 6, 2018 in Tel Aviv, Israel and sales will begin in April 2019.[3][4]

Name

Earlier, it was assumed that the new car would be called Felicia, Garde, Spaceback or Popular, however the name Scala was announced on October 15, 2018. Scala means "stairs" or "ladder" in Latin, according to the car maker it presents a big step forward in the compact car segment. This name has already appeared several times in the past, supermini Renault Scala was sold in 2012-2017 and Zastava Skala (small family car) in 1971-2008.

It is the first Škoda car with a constant internet connection, and will be equipped with 10,2" digital instrument panel, 9,2" center screen, 15"-18" wheels, blind spot monitor which senses cars up to 70 meters, lane, front and park assist, crew protect assist, rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and 467-litre boot space.[6][4]

Motors

The Škoda Scala will be available with a range of three turbocharged petrol engines, ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 liters (70 to 110 kW), and one turbocharged diesel 1.6 TDI (85 kW). During 2019, there will also be added a CNG version.[7][8]
