Lilac is a colour that is a pale violet tone representing the average colour of most lilac flowers. It might also be described as dark mauve or light purple. The colours of some lilac flowers may be equivalent to the colours shown below as pale lilac, rich lilac, or deep lilac. There are other lilac flowers that are coloured red-violet.
The first recorded use of lilac as an English colour name was in 1775.[2]
The "lilac" colour has a specific book published in 2018 by Coloratura Publisher. [3]

The colour French lilac is displayed at right.
This colour was formulated for use in interior design when a medium dark violet colour is desired.
The first recorded use of French lilac as a colour name in English was in 1814.[5]
In nature
The lilac-breasted roller is a member of the roller family of birds. It is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula.
In culture
Lilac was a colour associated with the final stages of mourning in English and European cultures.[6]
